Krag parts

Any one have a spare Krag top butt plate screw ?  it is the same as the rear sling mount screws near as I can detect .

Krag Philippine Constabulary carbine  followed me home over the weekend and this is missing.

 Sure, I have got one you can have. I am mailing some stuff out today, so PM me where you want it to ship to.

Incidentally, that screw went into production in 1855 to secure the trigger guard to the new line of minie ball weapons the US adopted and was used in various places on later Springfield longarms up to the M1903. It was also used by the manufacturers to hold the buttplate on to the M1 Carbine.

That little milled wood screw must hold some type of obscure record!

I think some of the screw dimensions go clear back to the Leger 1763 Chareliville muskets.  Many of the screw and bolt dimensions for pre Krag us weapons are actually in millimeters, as so much of the parts were based on the initial french design adapted/adopted as the M1795.

I'm pretty sure the USMC stol . . . ah, acquired most of the USN stock of M14s back during Gulf Wars 1/2,  The USN held on to the fiberglass stocked ones.

Upper is the crack open for glue

Lower the stock has been glued & clamped overnight and has been cleaned & striped of old finish

I'm sure they weren't stolen.  After all, there's only ever been one thief in the Marine Corps.  Everyone else was just trying to get their sh%% back!

That screw was last used on the M1 Carbine. I was having a Senior Moment adding the M1 and M14 to the list! They used a longer version on those two.

While I can't in all good faith say there was only 'one' thief in the Corps, I can recall an incident back in the 70s where a rail car full of pork destined for the Officer's Mess somewhere in Washington was 'accidentally' left behind at an unnamed Marine Corps installation in Virginia. BBQ ribs, pork chops, ham, and all that wonderous bacon spread between every chow hall on base for about two days, before the empty car was discovered on a siding next stop up the line. Not sure if they ever got in trouble for it or not, but the guys that handled the rail yard were golden among us after that.

Very nicely done. I like it. A good save. As I?ve said the constabulary/scool rifle Krags are the best. All that pretty walnut and blued steel.

Thank you fellas ....I'm  proud I lucked into it.

It is a sweet handling and very nice shooter I use a 195 grain gas checked bullet sized to .311 and 14.3 grains of Trail boss.
