Got this home yesterday, 45 Colt 2nd gen. Along with my 3rd gen. 44-40 with stags. Got to get a matching set for the new one.

Nice!  If you put stags on it to match the other, you will have to pay more attention when loading them.  :)

Many years ago we had a shooter named Ol Henry accidentally load his 44-40 rifle loads into his 45 revolver. He didn?t hit anything and couldn?t understand why. When he got to the unloading table he bursts out laughing when he mty?ed the brass from his Colts. The devils in the details. The stags are nice but I?d leave the colt grips on the odd one.

I accidently loaded 44 Specials in a 45 Colt SAA once when I changed pistols for a team shoot.  Sounded funny and the brass bulged, but I hit the target 5 times!

Hasn't been a problem so far.

My CAS guns are all 44-40, plus my safe is pretty much shelved by caliber. Plus,  ;) , I can read!  ;D

Nice stags! Guess there?s no problem.

That's some nice stag grips!  I've seen some fake ivory that looks plastic, and some looks okay and some that looks good, but every fake stag grip I've seen just looks fake!  Hard to match that look, even though every one is a bit different.

So, how many pairs of gutta percha grips do you have stored away?  Or, I guess the New Frontiers were mostly wood?

None of either. All are either elk or sambar stag.

Yeah, I meant the grips that got replaced, unless they all had stag when you bought them?

My wife used to shoot a 38 WCF 92 and a couple of 3d gen .45s.  She put the 38-40 in the .45 several times, bulges the cases something awful and they will not resize back to 38 WCF.  I finally switched her to straight 38 WCF so she did not have to think about it.   ;D

I see what you mean. There is a box marked Ruger down there, somewhere, with lot's of grips and other various parts in it.

Years ago I replaced my smooth original ruger rosewood grips with ajax [i think] checkered horn grips after shooting in the summer heat and having trouble controlling my vaqueros. I?ve been replacing grips with stag but none with the amount of bark that KM has on his. Nice. I?ve got a pair of super blackhawk hammers coming so maybe I?ll get back into SAs again next year. This month I will be using my Webleys and be Sgt Bourne.
