Professor Marvel

Oh my

I fell off the wagon
Again

I finally scored a (factory made, not a project) Italian (pedersoli!)
Sharps Rifle in .45-70 with a 26" barrel. Thats as long as I can handle without it dragging
On the ground.
Notice the lovely poured pewter foreend cap

And an honest to rudy Danish Rolling Block! A Model M-1867
Built in Kjobeenhavns Toihuus (thats the Copenhagen Arsenal)
In the original 11.7x42R and a 35.5 inch barrel.
I will need to fabricate a tiny caisson
Or acquire a pack burro. Or recruit some local kid as my gun bearer.
Is there an NCOWS costume for that
I wonder?

I'll be your gun bearer if I can occasionally shoot too!  I probably still fit in the "kid" category.

"Like Button"

Practice walking around the house with one in each hand (okay, maybe not in the house).  Then, when you carry just one in both hands it will feel much lighter.  :)

Pedersoli makes great guns - nice wood, too.  Did it come with half of a tang sight?

I don't know anything about that Danish caliber.  Can you reload for that?

Professor Marvel

Why thanks guys

Jim, if you show up on your own travel expenses I am bound to be able to come up with some sort of costume or other....

Abilene , from what I can discover "so far" these are said to be similar enough to 45-70 that one can modify the brass. Some folks have claimed that BP 45-70 loads will "fire fine with some base swelling"
Which leads me to believe that fireforming the brass and using the correct lead boolit for the bore ought to work fine. (Is that enough caveats?)

Regarding the Pedersoli Sharps, the reciever peep is a modernish Marbles Peep.
If it does not provide sufficient travel I have a cheap Dixie or TOTW "midrange vernier tang sight"
I can slap on there

:) Oh My Gosh Perfesser :o

Hacksaw McGurk took one look at that "Roller" and began to salivate uncontrollably.  Also shaking like a lief.  I can only hope his Luddite tendencies will prevent his finding your location.  Just as a precaution keep a sharp watch and yer powder dry  ::)   ;D

Congratulations on a great acquisition.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

DeaconKC

Congrats Perfessor! If that Rolling Block will allow you to use 45-70 brass, that will be a huge advantage. Keep us informed!

Coffin - if you are truly jonsing to cut on a barrel, I have a metric crapload of barrels

i am getting ready to sort out my "too many projects" and put some up for sale or trade, which will inlcude "too many barrels", a couple of Springfield trapdoor barreled recievers & parts, a pair of H&A falling block shotguns (only one breechblock), several pre '98 break-open shotgun rcvrs and bits and barrels, and a plethora of 1858 projects I have to sort thru and decide what stays...

I almost thought about getting a table at a show, or ebay but thats a lot of work for very little result. Especially dealing with fleabay thieves.
Worst case I will take pictures and contact VTI and Numrich and that Hoosier guy.

Congrats to you both, Professor & Kevin  ;)
 Those are some sweet acquisitions.

While I never had a Rolling Block, I did do some work on one in 43 Spanish.
Inherited by a gent, who knew nothing about it other that it was his dads.
My work included a chamber cast to determine its then unknow caliber.

On the other hand, I did have a NIB Pedersoli Cavalry Carbine in 45/70.
It was fine piece, fit and finish was first rate.
I allowed it sold, in a fit of greed I'm afraid  :-X

Like button to everyone.

Mrs Marvel and I are currently in the quite lovely town of San Antonio!
Meeting a friend we havent seen for years, but converse with almost daily...
The lit up riverwalk and riverwalk mini barges are really pretty!

My rifles are supposedly on the way. Original Roller and italian repro sharps.

Hopefully the shipper figured out the roller is not ffl.
Hopefully my ffl rcvr knows NOT to enter the roller in their bound book.
Doesn't matter a whole bunch to me these days, takes me forever to get there and pick anything up.

Prof. while you and Mrs. Marval are in San Antonio, go see "Alamo the Price of Freedom"
Sadly, it has been edited down to mere abridged version of the original format, but still worth the look see.
