And its not the first cost, (the gun);
I reload for my milsurps 30/40 ,303, 30'06, 7.62 , 8MM Lebel - and a goodly number of small arms 32/20 up to 45 Colt., ACP & Auto Rim.
I'd have to get 38/40 dyes, brass etc., thought I would not be opposed to do so  :-\

Thing is the gun is at fair price, And I think I need to look some harder at it.
I did not get to inspect the bore, nor did I find out when it was manufactured.
So, all in I be at about a grand.... Gun, dies, brass, bullets yada yada !

Now 'IF" I were to trade something  :-\ but what  ??? , I'm pretty much settled with what I have.

BUT the big BUT, I'm thinking and that is "the prangs" of the affliction, I have  ::)

Coal Creek Griff

I  have been in similar situations before. One option is to figure out a way to pay for the rifle, then add the components, dies, etc. as funds allow. Just owning a classic rifle like that is an honor; being able to shoot it can come along later. Just a thought...

I know how you feel Major, I've passed on guns that were a nice piece, would want to shoot it, had the funds but didn't want to add another caliber to the mix and didn't want to buy loaded ammo. I wouldn't hold it agen' ya if you passed. I do reload .38-40 for a pair of New Services a 7.5 and 4.5]. But am happy with my .45 marlins.

Ed, I have a Classic Limited JM Marlin in 32/20.
And a Winchester 73 made in 1891 also in 32/20, Griff, so I'm already down the reloading rabbit hole :P

I'll check with my LGS, if it is his to sell then perhaps, I'll put it on layaway or wrangle a trade.
Of Course, after I examine it further.

This truly is an affliction  :-X

Well, I went back, and I took a grand inspection on the Marlin....

Sadly, both tangs had brazed repairs as both had been cracked. This was not apparent in the initial photos offered me.  :-X

That turned out to be the deal breaker. Tig weld repairs and proper dressing perhaps....
But Bubba had been involved.
Clearly, poorly repaired
Note: the cracks brazed (yellow arrows) and the washer use to repair the broken & missing end of the tang.

The last post and condition of that Marlin threw cold water and dashed my fever ....some !
Even set in some remission...but

I'm in full prowl again I'm afraid, actively messing with the hunt again  ::)
Nothing in particular, just enjoying the hunt....

Half the fun is, the wonder of what will strike my fancy  :-\

I'm always finding myself one gun short of perfection in my collection (Hoard? Stockpile?heap?)

Perfection in a collection? I do not consider myself to be a collector, but I still need just one more.

Looks like I will be adding a S&W Model 25 in .45 ACP to the herd tomorrow. At least it is going on layaway.

I like my 1917 too, I reload my used ACP brass and got some 1/2 clips off eBay.
Bought some new Auto Rim brass from Starline or Graf & Son, when it popped up in stock I don't recall now  :-\
I'm looking forward to the photos of your new toy  :D

OH! My, that is just WOW!

I have been surfing eBay for Milsurp holsters to fill the gaps in Gun's I have without.
I scored a WW2 Husqvarna M07 holster.

I need to find a WW2 Enfield Web holster for my Tankers revolver
