Like your '66 but have a '66 musket so I'm set. Thinking that 2022 would be a good year to finish up projects and not buy any new toys. Have at least 7 gun related irons in the fire plus house and deck reprs. And my AS to rebuild.

Not mine, I haven' had a 66 in a long time, Henry's and 73's yes, but the 66 (a 38 special) was sold in about 1988.

I passed on this one

I have heard that those MAS 49's converted to .308 cave a pretty spotty reputation for reliability. May depend on who did the conversion work.

Major 2

PE -(MAS 49) I could not say who or when the conversion was dome.
It wasn't really on my radar of interest, one of the LGS partners was buying it anyway.

The 'ol Debbel is work'n' overtime on my gun affliction.

Got called to the LGS to look at "something" in a collection just brought in, always chancy  :-\

It was an 1878 Martini Henry, not a bad shooter grade, refinished but not over done cartouche's still present, and a good bore....
Same guy brought in a Mauser K98, also shooter grade, importers marked, again wood refinished good rifling w/ Bayonet...
a Mk4 Enfield w/ bayonet.
A Swiss SCHMIDT RUBIN K31 Rifle also with Bayonet
I liked the Mauser but "nofundums "

He had a original 1927 Winchester 1890 Pump.... in very good cond.  I'd like that TOO, sadly same condition 0 funds
well not quite, but not enough either  ::)

My Dear. major!

The Martini Henry "used to be" on my bucket list. I finally had a chance at one in person
And OMG the thing was sooooo heavy I had them put it back. One of those things
That one lusts after until they experience it in person....

I was like that with the Thompson, lusted one until I finally bought one (a good deal happened on a pre-owned)
Heavy, awkward and stiff springed.... the Spring part was fix (thanks to you).
But I never overcame heavy & awkward, no real joy in Whoville...it sat then got traded...
In retrospect, the Ammo & component shortage made 45 ACP unobtanium price wise as well.... :-\

Oh ! I forgot to mention the 2" Colt , I had to pass the old adequate funds dilemma :-\

Well, yesterday was in the LGS and saw a beautiful little Henry Single Shot in .45-70. Went back up today and it was even prettier than I remembered with GORGEOUS walnut stock. Anyway it came home with me.

Oh crud, I did it again....
I had sworn off of "mud puppies" until today. Found a little S&W Double Action in .38 S&W that has been SO neglected I had to bring it home. It is definitely a homely little beast, lots of surface rust and the muzzle end of the barrel may need to be bobbed from 4" to 3" due to some apparent damage to the bore. It's gonna get a bath in mineral spirits once i get the grips off it. It really is a pitiful little beast. Gonna need some serious TLC before I load up some BP rounds for it.

MM MM MMM !  resistance is futile....

Have you tried boiling to convert red rust to black?

Boiling in distilled water or captured rain water will convert the red rust(ferrous oxide) to black rust(ferro-ferric oxide)and will soften the rust making it easy to remove with brass wool or a soft brass wire brush. This is the same process used in rust bluing. Repeated rustings and boilings might be necessary to achieve a dark color. Ordinary potable water might not give satisfactory results depending on the mineral content.

Okay, I did it again. I traded for these expecting to use them for trade fodder, but the triggers are just gorgeous, so they are joining the herd. A pair of matching Uberti El Patrons in 45 Colt.
