OK here is my take on your thought.......

So, I'm in the LGS about 2 months or so ago, and see a Springfield 911 NIB, I handled it, and what cool little CCW
Basically, a 9MM version of the Colt Maverick (CM's are 380, I don't care for the .380).
But I procrastinated, and it sold out from under my hesitation, then a week or so later, I looked at a Rock Island enhanced Commander 1911.
again, I hemmed & hawed ....and it too was quickly snapped up....
So, I figured was not meant to be..... But what did avail itself, (actually it was there, just priced outreach)
was a very nice Springfield EMP .... with the others sold, I though what the heck, I made a lowball offer, hoping maybe the PO would counteroffer, well he didn't ...HE TOOK the offer 
So, I figure all was preordained, and I got this, sometimes the later bird does get the prize

Cowboy interest guns trickle into the frendly LGS on consignment from time to time.
They'll let me know, also the unusual, and or Milserp's

They have an 1888 Springfield Rifle w/ the ramrod bayonet, oddly it has a Spencer butt plate complete with the thumb piece
fused in place. Oblivious incorrect replacement at some time   
They also have pretty nice MAS-49. rechambered in 308.

The 1997 Winchester is a shooter grade, wood nicely refinished, 12 gauge the barrel has been cut, asking $600
The Uberti is in 45 Colt remarkably clean they want $1000 
I have no dog in the fight.... I would bet there is haggle room on both
