Over the 50+ years I've been a shooter and gun owner I've mastered the art of loosing money on almost every gun purchase ever made. I didn't often by rare or collectable firearms, just ones that interested me. Every single one was taken to the range and fired, and in most cases a hand load was worked up for them (rifle and handgun).

The kiss of death was lack of use. I don't believe in safe queens. If I found I hadn't shot a gun in two years or so it was up for sale or trade, and most often used as a down payment on the next thing that caught my eye. I consoled myself with the idea that I either got some use out of it which I was willing to pay for, or the loss was the price of finding out it wasn't the model or caliber for me.

In my dotage I find the desire to buy more guns is fading. What I really long for is the ability (physically) to shoot more than I am currently capable of managing. All those cliches about getting old are true. It ain't for sissies and they ain't the golden years. Still I'm grateful for all I have and all the memories. Just thought it would keep going longer than this. (smile)

I must have missed the last meeting.  My sponsor also didn't call me to remind.  Woe is me.  Fore I have fallen.  Again.  Whilst perusing the "short clips" from Shot show, I noticed in the background (Behind Alcamista) a wall of Shotguns on display.  I immediately started to salivate.

I am weak.  Really weak.  I have an affinity for Hammer Double Shotguns.  My resistance level is near nil.  No, let me be Frank .... it (my resistance) is NIL.  I almost immediately found myself dialing up EMF to ask about that wall of 1878 Replicants.  There was one in particular that just melted my resolve away.  Dark Walnut, Checkered Wrist and Forearm and a Nickel'd receiver.  Oh my.  PURE GOTTAHAVEIUM.  As turned, I was the first to ask about acquiring one of the "Show Guns." 

I am now the owner of that "one off" special replica 1878.

My first cas sg was a cut down Remington Model 1889 hammer. Not very competitive with its super duper he man mainsprings. Still got it. The forearm was missing so I had to build one.

The new to me Mauser just asked/begged  for bayonet

This Spanish bayonet was made by the Artilleria Fabrica de Toledo for the 7mm Mauser rifle. These bayonets were produced prior to and used during WW1 and the Spanish Civil War.
The 24.7cm single edged blade has a single fuller on each side and is in good condition with areas of mild age-related tarnish and red surface rust.
.The ricasso is stamped ?P. R. 8? over ?4245? and the obverse ricasso retains the manufacturer?s logo panel although the logo has been polished out.
The wooden grip scales are in good condition as is the mild age-related tarnish steel pommel. The press stud locking mechanism works perfectly.
I have used Evaporust to arrest the active red rust blossoms which dissolved 95%.
What remains is a few spots of black inert oxidation Which should polish out.  Minor pits remain on the guard. I will not remove any metal, just clean and allow the 100 years of character to remain.
The wood is in very good condition with some rust staining  (black stains) this has mostly lifted with Evaporust.
I am preserving the bayonet, not refinishing it cleaned up nicely.

I believe it is a Guardia Civil rifle (certainly NATO influenced )  , on 93 cock on close action   , Bore is bright , decent wood

aware of the controversy you mention. I'd also would down load for it  Lead in fact  My concern is someone before me may have not.

I know the PO before the current consigner (current fellow is the unknown )

The price is just a bit north of a fair asking with I believe some haggle room

Hey Major 2    That be a righteously nice bayonet.  Cleaned up really nice comparing the acquisition photo to the one "on the gun."  Really likes it he does.

Maj. Sterner.  First things first.  My Knew-Two-Me Shotgun is on the Cason.  Can't photo it until it arrives at the Fort.  Then I'll acquire a couple of Tin Types and impose upon Major 2 to post them so all can appreciate (Drool).

I'm just as guilty as y'all. I have some 32 rifles and two pistols so far. Mostly limited edition newer, vintage, antique and odd-ball air rifles. But a few vintage powder burners as well. Like this Short Lee Enfield MKIII in .303cal built in Lithgow for the Australian army in 1918. Had it's last FTR in 1953;

  And this Marlin A1-C semi-auto with 5 or 7 shot clip built 1942-46. I like that it has stamped into the barrel, " .22lr smokeless greased only". Still has original factory peep sights!

  And a Thomson Center renegade in .50cal from the 70's I bought used at the Lorain County gun show at the fairgrounds. Cherrywood stock;

  And a really cool old Crosman 160 Pellgun .22 Co2 bolt action. Variant one from the 1955-56 model run, the first of it's kind I restomodded with the highest power gas valve available and a olive drab sling & swivels. Seen here with ultra-rare Ron Robinson scope mounts and Winchester 4x32AO scope;

Nice little shooter...has maybe the best double action trigger I've seen on any gun....
Very smooth & light , in single action mode it breaks like glass....
