Hello gang what is going, or not going, on anyway?

Is everyone out enjoying the last days of summer before all the rain, sleet, snow, and blizzards start?
I am otherwise occupied with a bunch of personal things or I would be stirring the pot, so to speak, trying to get some kind of conversation going.

I realize that a little north of Amarillo winter is looming nearby I would suppose. Actually, I am not sure if there is anything going on past Lawton Oklahoma the furthest north I have ever been or am motivated to go, but come on guys everything can?t be going that smooth.

Major, Professor, Coffinmaker, Dick what is going on?
Steel Horse Bailey, where are you?
Is this forum dying?
Please anyone say something funny, sarcastic, or just plain crazy.
Cordially
Bunk

Well Sir.... I'm WE the whole dam State actually is under MAJOR  as in finger of GOD Cat 5 Hurricane warring....

Winds are 185 MPH  with gusts to 220 ? Abaco Islands Bahamas are under siege NOW ? and will be for 40 some hours  :o imagine an F4 Tornado
sitting on you for 40 hours !

The entire State of Florida is at or in the cross hairs

This is the one , the history maker , they warned about ?.

I'm the FNG here, but I've been posting a little and looking around the areas that interest me, and soaking it all up. I like it here a lot. Seems like great people and a wealth of information.

I've noticed that forum participation is down everywhere. Must just be the time of year.

Hope the good folks of Florida are hunkered down, or evacuated.

I wish you guys the best Major. Between the crime and the hurricanes, being a Flordidian just lost its appeal.

Bunk Stagnerg

Considering the Abacos, in fact all the Bahamas are not over 15 feet above seal level my guess they are toast.
My wife and I lived in Palmetto Florida for a couple of years before taking our West Sail 42 down the thorn-less path all the way to Rodney Bay St. Lucia W.I. and all Florida and those islands are going to get hurt bad.
I wish you good luck.

Been casting Big Lube bullets now as the weather moderates.  I've got a lot of empty cartridge boxes to fill.

Dick I am waiting for winter to do any casting. It is 6:45PM and has cooled off to 92. out side.
Gets hot here in Texas and humid not like the Arizona territories.

Professor Marvel

I am with you, Bunk, regarding the heat.

I am working on something funny... kinda hard with the world going a bit nuts...

Oh and I haven,t seen Steelhorse for a while, I hope he is ok, he was last online Oct in 2018...

It has been so hot this year, breaking records in ABQ. Even up here in the mountains its been hitting 95 which means 105 down in town. Too hot to cast, too hot to go outside and shoot, and I just got a new snubby 1860 like tolumaain lawmaker ... fortunately I got a cartridge cylinder for it so I can load up some smokeless and pay the exorbinate fee to try it out indoors...

The weather is literally nuts this year. .. we do not have proper El Ni?o conditions in the Pacific, and yet there is enough of a warm water band off Mexico we are getting similar monsoon rains here!

If it isn,t too hot to shoot, it,s too rainy! But I will take the rain over forest fires any time!

So I myself am putzing with sawing on C&B barrels , putting in a conversion backplate , and will probably have to make do with glue bullets in the side yard again...

Major, you folks try and stay safe & dry over there in hurricane land. And maybe consider retrofitting your house to something like this

Coffinmaker

I'VE just been hangin out in my Munitions Fabrik.  Shooting some matches.  Cutting and staining some leather (NOT real pretty), following Bunk's adventures in Texas, Dodging the local Thunder Storms we seem to have been blessed with of late.

Considering some Barrel Shorting my own self.  Have a couple of Hammer Doubles with entirely too much steel on the end.  Planning to fix that.

I well understand Perfesser.  It seems those Cretans what run indoor shooting facilities have no real sense of right and wrong.  Smokeless in that there Snubbie is just wrong.  But ... when needs must ..........

Everybody stay safe out there!!!

bushwhacker

Bunk,
Steel Horse is having some serious medical problems with his wife and his daughter.
He hasn?t been at any shoots this year.  I hate he and his family are going through this.  Just keep him and his family in your prayers.

Hello Bushwacker,
My only knowledge of Steel Horse from his posts, but I am sorry to hear about his family health problems.
Having gone through things like that with my family and I understand how hard it is and  can only wish the best for him and his family.
Respectfully Submitted

No worries Bunk ...

here's some fun! This is what I have been up to for three months:

back end subaru rattles and mouse wars

"for some unknown reason" I have been having crazy rattles from the back end of my 2005 forester, I could not locate it ,
tried tieing down anything that seemed remotely loose, it would come & go with no logicla reason ......

turns out, I had backed into a low retaining wall with my frame-mount socketed trailer hitch in place. Son Of  a gun,
it twisted the thinhg until it was within 1/2 inch of making contact with the edge of the muffler!
Twisting it back as best I could, and replacing the 15 year old rubber tailpipe shock mounts fixed thaqt, after 3 months of chasing it.

In the meantime I  had removed all the plastic internal panels trying to find what was rattling....
instead I found mousey nests.

So, the mouse wars are commencing!
snap traps, peanut butter, and trying to figure out exactly where they are getting in.
I need some barn cats I guess.
I will probably have to build another "mouse corral" to park the car in... :-)

Perfessor
You the travelling apothecary and licenced snake oil salesman should know this

Get thee hence and procure some 100% good peppermint oil - couple drops ona cottonwool swab (yeah those ones the lady of tha house uses for makeup) couple of em up under the dash - under seats - up the back - cn even put some in the engine bay - thats first port of call fer meeces - come there for the warm n fuzzy feeling - then they discover they can get a free feed from a bit of grass seed and some dead bugs - next thing they bring along all the relatives and set up house .
Serious - these little stinkers hate peppermint oil smell - they just go annoy smeone elses car - wont be half as much fun as trappin tho......

Major 2

We weathered the STORM . in FACT quite well , not so the poor Bahamas  :( .and I fear Charleston and Carolina coast.
I wish the sane good fortune to them as we received .

I had a 4 foot long Texas Rat Snake  (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimeri) that visited my shop from time to time.
Best mouse trap ever and there was no place the mice could hide it could not get them.Very docile, did not mind being handled, and saved me having to dispose of dead mice. I will admit it did startle visitors on occasion but it did not bother me.Now that is a real Texas thing!
