My son was in the plane directly behind the one that rolled off the runway in Chicago last night.

He was stuck on the plane...they wouldn't let anyone off, no smoking, no food...for seven hours before they could get out to the terminal.

He was on his way home from a business trip in the Bahamas, so no warm clothing.  His wife told my grandson that Daddy didn't have any clothes to wear and Logan asked if Daddy was naked on the airplane.  "Is Daddy shaking his booty for all those other people?"  Four year olds are such literal little people.

The baggage stayed on the plane and he hasn't been able to shave, shower, brush his teeth, etc.  Can't get to his medication.

He finally called his wife at 4:00am (she was frantic) because he couldn't get a cell phone signal on the plane.

Now he's supposed to land back in Vegas at 10:30 and can't be reached again.

Good thing  is that his boss and his boss's boss are on the plane, too, so he has a good excuse for not going back to work today.

Damn, kids are worrisome critters.

I hear tell Chicago was a BIG mess. The brunt of the storm went south of here.
I'll be praying fer his safe return.

Last year during the big storm I sat on a plane at Dulles Intl. for 6 hours. They finally decided we weren't getting off the ground so they took us back to the terminal.  They left the baggage on the plane and told us we were welcome to stay in the airport for the night or find lodgings (on our own).  This was Inaugural weekend!   I bought a Bush Inauguration commemorative Polo shirt and cap before leaving the airport so I'd at least have a clean shirt.

I did manage a room in a Hilton an hour from the airport.  The planes were flying the next day and I made it to my corporate meeting the following afternoon.

All it took was patience and the knowledge that I couldn't do a damn thing.

Communicating with the office and my wife was easier on me.  I had two cell phones, Even let others use them so they could let folks knkow they were all right.

Sorry your son had to go through that.  I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but it does build character. ;D

I'm certain he's okay, but his cell phone died and I don't know where he is.  I do know he isn't back in Vegas yet.  Actually, I know a lot of places he ISN'T, I just don't know where he IS!

Buck, you'll pay for that.  Does eight cents sound about right to you?

It dawned on me that times have changed.

In '70 I was flying from Salt Laket to Chicago to Peoria, changing carrierrs at Chicago.  Plane was late and I made the connection but my luggage didn't.  Last plane of the day.  I had a 10 am job interview the next morning.  The airlines (Ozark) had a cab deliver my suitcase to the hotel and had a woman press my suit and shirt so I could make it on time...no charge.  I got the job.

1972, Savannagh to Atlant to Chicago to Peoria...changed planes at Chicago again.  Hit bad storms out of Atlanta and ended up at La Guardia in NYC.  The airline (don't recall the line) provided transportation, hotel rooms, meal chits, and transportation back the next morning and gave us all tickets to anyplace they went.

Today you get a third of a handful of stale poisonous peanuts and soft drinks.  That and a hadr time if you say anything.

Can't get me on another commercial flight.

I'm with Forty Rod on this one as well. The attitude of todays airlines is expressed by the term "customer no service".

I don't know if he's home or not.  The little turd hasn't seeen fit to call yet, and his wife hasn't either.  I may drive up there and kick his butt for worrying his Momma...only a seven hour round trip.

My wife has a sister who lives at Crete, about 30 miles from Lincoln, but she works in Lincoln.  When the weather is bad she calls and tells us she's headed home.  Then about half the time she forgets to call when she gets home and after a while my wife calls and checks on her.  "oh I forgot she says."

My wife won't listen to me, but I think if she slid off the road and had to sit in the car for a few hours it would teach her a good lesson.

Try not to feel too bad, Forty, my son who lives in Mission Viejo never calls whenever they get home, either - from anywhere.  They left here on Saturday morning after Thanksgiving, and we still haven't heard whether they got home or not - of course, we are sure they did, but ------ >:( >:(

Inconsiderate.  Worries his Momma.

When he was in the Navy we went 13 weeks without hearing while he was in the Pacific.  I told my wife he was okay because they'd have been in touch if he was dead, seriously injured or sick.  If he was in trouble someone would have either let us know or come looking for him.

He finally sent us a picture of himself with a kangaroo from Perth and a note saying it was a pic of our new daughter-in-law.

Y'all fellers are makin' me feel like I should go call my Mama . . . 'course she's gone on a few years ago now . . . maybe I'll give my Sis a call in the morning just to say "hey".

I'm here in Chi-town, & everything was back to usual (notice I didn't say NORMAL) by the next day, so I'd hope your young'en got back on a safe path right away.

You're likely right, we "kids" get busy with our lives and sometimes forget Ma & Pa are worying about us until they take their last breath.

My oldest little girl (10) just went away to camp for the first time last week. YES, in the winter, in Illinois, don't seem to make good sense, but that the public school system for you these days. Any way, I thought I was gonna die until she got back to the homestead. It was only 3 days, & she was with responsible folk, but still . . .

I never knew a parent's mind set when their young'ens are out of sight, & now I wish I'd have called home a little more.

Give that boy a call, I'll bet he'd love to hear from you.

Take Care,
DB
