I am in the process of making a rig for my missus. It will be for SASS with 6.5" Ruger blackhawks and a separate 2" wide belt for 12 gauge cartridges and 357 magnum cartridges. I have cut a strip of 8-9 ounce veg tanned at 3" wide for her gun belt but I am concerned that the two belts may be a bit bulky for her as she is only 5.5' tall. It will be a straight ranger style belt and the belt loops for the holsters will fold over the top so that the pistol grips are higher then the top of the belt. Can anyone enlighten me on a better size for the gun belt or do you think the 3" would be ok?

As a former Law Enforcement Instructor, I will offer one bit of advice. Make sure that you leave her enough room to draw the pistols! Women's hips taper in more than a man's and that can often affect the ease with which a gun can be drawn.

To re-inforce what DeaconKC has said, maybe a couple of cross-draw holsters so she can pull them at an angle rather than straight up.

You may well consider making it a "Contour" belt to fit a woman's hips, rather than a plain "straight" belt.

Unless you are building ?drops? or buscadero style, three inches is far too wide for any female with a womanly hour-glass shaped construction. Some ladies are.... how can i say this gracefully .... built like a boy?

Thanks all for your help, I have taken every ones advice on board and started another rig. The plan is to make a 3" contoured drop loop with holsters on either side and buckle on the back with 8 shot shell loops on the front of this belt, five 38 loops either side of the shotshell loops. I have carefully measured up my wife and it seems to suit her better. Although she informed me that it will need to be fancier then the first rig I finished which suits me ok. Any critisism is most welcome ;D

I would go tother way I reckon - a two inch belt with a bit of weight on it or tension or some padding underneath (me) tends to be uncomfortable and/or to curl over time - narrow belts for skinny dudes that dont need a belt at all.
A gal with a nice figure can wear a wide belt with style too.

First rig looks great! Can't wait to see her new one. 8)
