Rossi 92 Rifle version

When and why did Rossi quite offering the 24" octagon barrel Rifle variation?

The best I can determine from reading the internet is 2016.  But why just offer the 20" and other short ones?

I would like to find one of these rifles.

Beats me why, but most likely because they didn't sell as well as the shorter rifles and carbines.  Keep Navy Arms in your searches as Rossi made their '92's, with decent wood.

I actually called Rossi a few weeks ago to ask about this very matter. They are not building the rifles at this time and the lady I spoke with asked someone there, and there are currently no plans to build them in the near future.

Ok, I really do like the '92 action on the Rossi carbine but the rifle styling would have been better to me.

You see, when I started CAS in '90 I had a strong desire for a 44/40 Win 1873 rifle style but the first thing I saw at the gunshows were 1892's.  I had a chance to buy a very nice condition original 38/40 rifle styled '92 for $312.  I past it up because I really wanted an earlier impression and to load 44/40's, I eventually found my original 1873 and used BP from then on in all my cartridges.  Years later, I regretted not having both but did not trust the Rossi quality in the early 2000's and originals had risen to high.

Oh well, if I ever do run across a Rossi rifle styling in 44/40 or 44 Mag or even a 357 I would most likely buy it, have fun, and then maybe have it changed to a 38/40 for more fun.  Or I may just have to get a good condition original.

I no longer shoot CAS so it is all just for fun and experience.....

I am very familiar with the early Rossi problems having had to get several issues corrected on a .357 version. At what point in time did the Rossi improve their quality control??

I just bought a new 24" in .45 Colt. I'm not sure it it is NOS or just new.

Well, 45 Colt isn't exactly a stellar "long range" performer.  Out past 100 yards, the trajectory is reminiscent of a Rainbow.  I personally wouldn't use 45 Colt as a hunting arm past 150 and consider that a "stretch."

The 92 can be loaded to 44 Mag pressure and some in 45 Casul.  Neither of those loadings stretches the range much.  Those big cross-section 45 bullets slow down pretty quickly.  Most, myself included, consider the 45 Colt as a short range "brush" or dense cover rifle.

 ;DCoffinmaker is correct. I have a.45/.454 Casull 1892. It us my deer rifle.  But I hunt thick brush where a 75 yard shot is rare.  I would not consider it ethical to shoot at a deer more than 75-80  yards.  After that range, it is approaching spray and pray territory.

I have no clue what your Velocity is/will be with a 24 inch barrel.  However, a 200Fr bullet isn't going to help you much if at all.  You're still trying to push a Brick thru the atmosphere.

I'm with Jeremiah Jones.  Were I still hunting, regardless of rifle, with a .45 Colt cartridge or even 45 Casul, I wouldn't be at a all tempted to shoot past 75 yards.  The trajectory with any bullet is going to be a Rainbow.

The really heavy bullets such as the 265Gr Keith SWC and other big heavy bullets for .45 were developed and intended for close range use in handguns for taking dangerous/large game.  Some Testosterone rich individuals thought taking a Cape Buffalo with a handgun was grins and giggles.
