Can you guys recommend a smith that will install a hardened firing pin bushing on a Uberti Model P ??

MikeM, is this a repair you need to do on a wallowed out firing pin hold, or are you just doing this for preventive purposes?  The vast majority of Model P's will never have that problem.

I know Lonnie Ammann of Tejas Long Rifles, who has done lots of work for Cimarron over the years, has put bushings in some Opentops a number of years ago so I imagine he could do it.

Did original open tops and conversions have these bushings in their frames??

No, Colt did not put bushings in OT's or conversions, except the first Richards conversion had the floating firing pin in a screw-in bushing.  But some of the Uberti OT's had issues with both puckering out the hole and with a primer-sized area around the hole sinking in, and so some of those were repaired by adding a bushing.  I've heard of some other 'smiths like Lassiter who would add weld to the dished in areas and resurface.

Like I said, I would never put a bushing in a Model P unless it needed it, and that is rare.  Avoiding dry firing without snapcaps helps.  But if someone wants to do it for preventive reasons, more power to them.

I will mention that I've only heard praise for Alan Harton, though sometimes he seems very busy so patience required.

I'd wait and fix the problem should it ever become one because chances are it never will.

Abilene is correct . I have 2 Allen Firearms Old Models (predecessor to the Cimarron Model P) that I bought in 1984, that has countless rounds through, with no problems what so ever.  :)
