Need some info about old eyes and implants

Doc says he can remove cataracts and implant a new lens that will do away with my need for glasses at distance,,,BUT STILL NEED READING GLASSES..OR,,I can get implants that will do away with my need for ANY glasses..BUT,,,,,,they are big bucks and a failure rate of 25% .I was wondering if any of you all have any experience with implants and how they have worked for you.

Thanks for the info ,,,any down sides at all?..BTW-How long have you had the implants?

My wife just had her cataracts removed and new lenses 'installed'. She had problems with bright lights at night, seeing distance's, and aching eyes (she was nearsighted). So far it is a complete success, she does use some low powered reading glasses at times. I asked her a bunch of questions before I posted about any problems or failure rates her Doc talked with her about before surgery. She advised they screen any prospective patients thoroughly for anything that can cause problems. One of my longtime friends and shooting pards had his done a number of years ago and his eyesight was worse than my wife's. He now wears no glasses, except I believe for fine print and small detail. Everything I've heard about this procedure is good and successful, sort of like years ago heart surgery was a front page news item, but now so routine and sucessful at scores of hospitals it doesn't make any headlines.

You will most likely need to wear sun glasses in bright sun light.

in 2008 and I couldn't be happier with them. Yes, they were
expensive, but well worth it, in my opinion.  I was offered either  distance or close, and I opted for distance, as I was shooting my Sharps and Rolling block at long range a lot.  If I had it to do over, I think I would go for close up.  I have  couple of friends who had it done and they both are happy with their re

sults. I have never heard of any failure rate, let alone  25% failure rate.

The 25% failure rate was just for the close up + distance together implants.

I had both my eyes done a few years back. Only draw back is sensitivity to dust and hot weather.

Eye drops are the cure.

Well,,I did it,,Had surgery on left eye in December and right eye the 13 of January,,Could not be happier,,I got the implants for distance and can see 20-20 now ,,and I was blessed that I also can read up close without glasses,,Doctor said I was really lucky by being able to see up,close also when I got the distance implants,,I go back next week to get the all clear for shooting heavy recoil rifles,,I hope.

My mom got "monovision" (I think that's what it was called) many years ago, one lens for close, one for distance, so no glasses needed.  The brain "adjusts". She was good with this for a long time, but then as the eyes continue to age, she started needing glasses and correcting both eyes started to be harder to do.  Then macular degeneration started setting in so now glasses don't help her much at all.

Doubtful on the doctor clearing you for heavy recoil rifles - the shock can be too great for the implant and cause it to rupture - better have a long conversation.
