brass or silver toe cap how-to?

 I just picked up a Paterson from Raven over on the Classifieds. I want to make a full flap holster with a silver or brass toe cap like I saw in Packing Iron. I've heard of napkin rings being used for this, but how are they attached? I've been making my own holsters for over 20 years, but never one like this.

I've made a few, some from flat stock (cut & silver soldered ) and I've use Napkin Rings
and this one fashioned from a brass oil lamp cap 


in all cases , I added wood plug glued in the bottom of the shaft and attached the cap with brads.

That cap looks really good. Really nice work closing the toe on that one. Nice work, there.
