A photo of this revolver was shown on our forum several years ago. This just popped up on FB;

WOW! With the weight of eight cylinders, 48 lead balls, powder, along with the weight of the barrel and frame----that is one heavy 'hogleg'!!!!!!! Ifin' that was in production today, the anti-gun crowd would label it an 'assault' firearm and pictures of it would abound at anti-2nd Amendment Rally's, lib political types would hold one high in some legislative hearing, 8x10 glossy photo's with circles and arrows with writing on the back would be shown. Maybe that is one of the reasons it didn't make any production-libs of the day caused the owner to go bankrupt. Good rainy day project---weigh one cylinder x 8, 48 balls, est barrel and frame---get approx. weight of thee ol' baby blue. Just curious.  :)

NAW.  Everbody is missing the most important part.  CHAINFIRE!!  Can you just imagine the "FUN" a chain fire could be with that thing.

:o ;D :o ;D :o ;D  Hand held 4th of July display!!!

Wonder, I typed the gun and model on yahoo search, around 6-7 sites came up telling about the gun, but none advised what the caliber is. From some of the various pictures it looked like could be 40 some, others maybe around 36. Anybody know what caliber it was! Other interesting pics of it online.

CC,

My Transitional Revolver was made in London, I estimate about 1850.
Mine is in .36 cal. or what maybe called .380 or 9mm depending on where the arm was made.
It looks like the same pattern revolver as this revolver was built up from. It is double action "only" with top hammer, with nipples mounted on the rear outside dia. of the cylinder.
I hope this info may help?
My best,
