I have recently came into a Colt 1889. 4 chambers index well, 2 overrotate, anyone know a gunsmith to fix?

Mine has the same problem. Worn out extractor ratchet. The 89's were the first Colt Hand Ejectors and used the same indexing system as the 1877's. Cylinder lock-up occurs from the recoil shield indexing the extractor ratchet. No cylinder bolt cuts. Bolt cuts would appear on the 92's. Mine is a 5" .41 DA. With the help of my friend Bryan Buck we hand loaded .41 Heeled black powder cartridges and despite the sewer pipe bore it shoots well at NCOWS distances. While not reliable in double action mode it well still operate correctly as a single action. I'll bring it along to Muster next month.
