Take heed to the major's recovery methods.

Got new pot of, brewing and water on for tea.  Going to have some eggs and something a little bit later.

Warmest morning so far this week but rain is also in forecast.

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of our 16 year old "fur-kid" Zorro over the Rainbow Bridge
after a 3 year battle with bladder cancer and a 9 month battle with intestinal cancer,

Zorro (The Fox)
http://tinypix.top/i/gFdI

Last July, right after Mrs Marvel's Spinal Fusion surgery. Zorro required emergency surgery to remove the intestinal blockage to save his life, and we had them remove the bladder tumor along with a third of the bladder . He recovered well and we enjoyed  8.5 more months of quality life together.

Unfortunately the tumors returned ( as expected) and when he could no longer eat or defecate this weekend
we took him in Wednesday afternoon to "give him grace" .

He passed peacefully in our arms, I could actually see the relief in his eyes as the pain left,  and then he was on ice in a nice little cardboard coffin in the garage whilst we prepared his grave

In our belief system, we "know" that he has only exited his body and is now standing by in non-corporeal form;
to paraphrase a Buddhist monk " the cup may be broken but the tea is still tea"

But we still miss him.

Yesterday We buried him with his favorite toys and a plate of all his favorite foods. His corporeal remains are interred next to his mentor cat Groucho in our garden .

yours in grief

Afternoon all.

Woke up to an inch of that white stuff this morning, which I suppose us better than the forecast 18 inches, but I don't think my vegetable patch is terribly happy about it.

The family car is acting up today.  Made it over the mountain for the city and it starts dinging and flashing, and light on the dash come on.  Some form of traction control sensor went out, which can make the abs system do fun things, like lock one wheel for no good reason, so we limped back over the mountain.  So I guess I'm just going to walk the dog.

Sorry to hear about your little guy, professor.

Professor Marvel

Thanks all. Much appreciated.
I am grateful he lasted this long, Mrs Marvel NEEDED him on her lap for the months post surgery.
And I needed him too.

An old tune came on the radio, which I rarely play: "Closing Time."
Just in time for the important last line:

Rooster, we have Comcast internet and cable, and also use Hulu, Netflix, the supplied apps on our Sony DVD player, YouTube, google chromecast , and I stream nature shows from japan. I used amazon but don't care For it much, Hulu and Netflix do everything it does for less.

Happy to answer any questions...

Thank you Professor

YW rooster -

to elaborate, ROKU tunrs a "dumb TV" into a "smartTV" by allowing your TV to get to a gazillion internet streaming sites
thru a simpe menu. If you have internet.

If you already havea smart TV or a smart DVD player, they will present many of those sites or apps that ROKU does.
But ROKU gives you more - hundreds it looks like. only a handful are "free" .

Onceyou find them ,you can get to all of them on your computer, but then you have to work out how to send the picture from
your computer to your TV, and you still have no remote control.

ROKU does al that for you, with a cool menu, and an nice remote.

I got the Google CHromeDongle way before ROKU cameout, thinkng I could just "throw" anything from the computer tothe CHrome thing plugged into my TV. Turned out it wasn't as easy as ROKU, a whole lot of do-it-yourself and
figure-it-out-on-your-own .

Then I found that I can stream or download most "free" streamed shows using the chrome browser, ( like Japan's NHK nature shows and some others )  and use a program called PLEX to organize and fling them to the Google Chrome Dongle.  So the Dongle redemed itself for that.

I looked into KODI, which is completely different and even more do-it-yourself, and found it's no better than what I got.

If you go to buy a new TV you can even get own with ROKU built in, which is nice. But having the separate ROKU box with a remote means you can take it to any room or with you to a hotel.

hope this helps

I was thinking about dumping cable and use RokuUltra with their remote. Hook up looks simple. $35 a month compared to $120 a month. Already have internet thru windstream.

So many others also available

Howdy Professor,
My sympathy to you and Mrs. Marvel on your loss. Our daughter lost their seven year old Golden Doodle just a few days before Christmas.

We had Time Warner Cable for many many years. Their pricing got way out of line so we dropped them. We installed a Roku box,  a Mohu Indoor HDTV  Antenna ($59.95) and subscribed to Netflix. We are very satisfied with this setup. In fact we get the Packer games much clearer with the Mohu Antenna then we did on cable.

We dumped Dish a few months ago, and currently getting by with Netflix DVDs. Binge watching is ok, but slow, when they only let you have 2 at a time. With no internet, aside from our phones, options are limited. Been watching the Tubi app on my phone. Some really good movies, like Quigly Down Under, Wild Bunch, True Grit... a lot of older movies, and a slew of indi movies. I also watch the CW tv app, and they are awful. Imagine, trying to watch satellite tv... in a really bad storm. The video is very pixelated. Surprisingly enough, the many commercials play flawlessly.

litl rooster

Late morning here....just getting my coffee. I went to bed after i fed the critters this morning.  My weekend has started.

Thanks all. We have talked here about dumping cable in the past. I think one of these options will give us what we need. As long as we can get college football in the fall.

I think History channel and the cooking shows are all on those systems.
Mathew 5.9

Johnny McCrae

Forgot to mention... with the Roku box, Roku offers some free movies including True Grit (new version), Quigley down under, Red River, Valdez is coming plus several more.

The Trinity Kid

Afternoon all.

Sunny and 55 here today, in total contrast to the snow yesterday.

So far today I've weeded my little garden patch, which has bean shoots coming up, and been to the DMV. So now my driver's license has been renewed, and it only took 90 minutes.  If "that guy" hadn't been there, it would have taken 25.  But, what can you do.
Apparently, in California you can get a DL that isn't federally recognized identification. You can't go on flights or buy guns with it, but you don't even have to be a citizen to get it.  I went with the federal recognition route, which cost $10 more and involves an NICS, TSA and CA DOJ background check.  Sheesh.
