I knew a Jim Burk, met him on location , I think it was North & South Book 3. Heaven and Hell:
He owned a falling horse he was wrangling on the shoot.
Then again on "Oscar" with Sylvester Stallone, wrangling antique cars.
when planets align...do the deal !

Thanks for the offer, del, but I think I'll brew up a pot of the real deal. ::)

Afternoon all.

Forecast for rain this afternoon and over night.  Looking at the gray up at the 7500 foot level, I'm inclined to agree.  Temperature is right at 60.

Took the canine to the vet today.  She's been itching and losing fur for a couple weeks, so we finally had to take her in.  Turns out, she's allergic to fleas and her itching and hair loss has been from that.  I didn't know that was a thing, but the doctor gave her an antihistamine shot and within minutes the itching cleared up.

So now she's sitting under my chair while I sip coffee and carve a nice piece of sycamore I've been saving.  I'm trying to make a pipe bowl out of it, despite having zero experience in the field carving department.  We'll see if it works.

Or alot of other things they rub on steak, garlic salt pepper lemon?.... i do use left over coffee for gravy and to simmer with.  The coffee taste is very mild.  As they say on the cooking shows. "It is another layer in the flavor profile. "

Thanks Slim for the drinkable coffee today.

Another cool spring day here.

That nip in the North East has pecular things happening to the trees. Our trees are budding and opening. The trees there, are sprouting buckets. Then someone with a sled comes and collects them. I am nursing a jug of pure tree honey. That was a Christmas gift. My sister and her family visit a local Sugar Shack often this time a year. Her Grandson my great nephew is in love with this stuff.

Ok got two stained, will put a couple more coats on in the morning.   Small butcher knife is a very light piece of Old World walnut, sometimes called Persian or more commonly English Walnut.  Northern California grown on a Hinds Walnut root stock also called Northern California Black Walnut or also in the lumber trade, Claro.

The chef's knife is Claro with what is called marble cake grain.

You can see how the coffee stain brings out the grain and in a few days when I add the linseed oil the both will really pop.

Walnut often is improved by staining, but it is easy to cover the grain with store bought stains, the reason I like to make my own.

Afternoon all.

Rainy today.

Truck is in the shop today.  Hope to have it back tomorrow.  We'll see.

Made pork chops in onion gravy on spaghetti noodles for dinner.  Went well with the loaf of sweet bread I made the morning and some corn and greens.

I think our excitement for today was the police chase.  Lasted half an hour and covered almost 20 miles.  Ended when the suspect got his Kia Sorento stuck in 5 inches of snow trying to run a mountain pass on a back road. Started over threatening/brandishing a gun at a pedestrian.  These are the charges I can remember off hand:

Felon in possession of a gun, intimidation, threatening, brandishing, failure to yield, 65 in a 25 zone, reckless endangerment, 80+ in a 55 zone, resisting arrest, threatening an officer with a firearm, possession of narcotics and paraphernalia, drug related DUI, possession of stolen property.  Plus an outstanding warrant in the neighboring county for assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and narcotics.  And he's just a plain old white guy, so they'll throw the book at him.  I'm guessing life, possibly with parole at 20 years.

Del, do you know where in CA that walnut came from? I might know the grower from church.
