Picked this up at a pretty decent price the other day. In excellent condition, good bore, good trigger, tight mechanism. Marked with patent numbers on the side of the frame; ASM and EMF are discretely marked on the bottom of the barrel, and the 'New Dakota' marking on top of the barrel is quite faint and easy to miss during casual inspection. The mainspring is a little heavy and I may adjust that, but I will shoot the gun before I mess with it.

I actually bought it to convert to a Sherrif's model, but it's so nice, and this is my favorite barrel-length for a SAA so I think I'll probably leave it alone.

Hey Tinker!!

Nice Score.  The ASM built guns are/were the closest copies of Colt up until the Pietta built GW II came along.  ASM had spotty QC and their Conversions were/are hard to keep running.  Since your going to shoot yours, I'd like to make a Suggestion??

Along with spotty QC, also shaky Metallurgy.  I'd personally suggest a "Lee's Gunsmithing Gunfighter" Main Spring and T/B spring kit for it.

Really nice example.

PS:  I couldn't tell in the photo .. Two slot safety Cylinder Base Pin??

Hi Tinker
I'v been looking for that exact revolver for over a year to replace one I had many years ago. Nice find. If you ever think of letting
it go let me know. I do have a complete grip frame w/ grips for that model.

Hey Tinker,

It is only a matter of time.  Not "if."  Just "When."  Your goin to forget that two slot Base Pin and push it all the way in.  Then when you snatch your pistol out, it will immediately go "Click" "Click" "Click."  SO:  I'd like to suggest removing the last 3/16th of the pin and then dress it.  Then you can just shove it in all the time   ::)

PS:  Plus what Abilene said below.

Abilene

Also the gun looks better with the pin all the way in.  :)

I think I am going to do just that.
