We have a place for opentops, rugers, spencers, and others...

How about a place for Henry (1860 and 1866) shooters? I don't know if you would open it up to 1873 and 92/94 shooters as well...your choice.

But, it would be a shame if there were no place for Henry owners like their is for Spencers...crying shame. <sniffle>

Howdy DW,

A new board is always open for consideration, but first we need to establish an interest. My first reaction is that the lever actions we normally use in Main Matches are covered under our CAS boards.

Or maybe I am wrong..... the topic is open for discussion before we eventually make any decision.

Rule of thumb:

Suggestions on new boards must be precise and with a description plus a purpose that make the board separate from other CAS boards where lever actions are discussed in general.

Fair enough. I will work on it some more and fire back when I feel I can make a more solid case.

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, now I have something to say!  I would like to see a place for Henry shooters also.  The Henry made a huge contribution to the cause, be it Indians or Rebs.  What else could you have owned back in day that you could, "Load it on Sunday and shoot it all week"?  I just bought a Big Boy 45LC and just love it.  What a fine gun.  So hows about it Oh Great One?  Can we get a place on the boards?

I'm with Joss on this one, the Henry Big Boy is nothing liike the original 1860 Henry.  We need to be more specific as to which one(s) we are talking about.

The original poster refers to the original 1860 Henry and their replicas, not the rifle made by Henry Repeating Arms Company. This is what this request and poll is about.

I would be very interested in a 1860 Henry board as well as the 1866 Improved Henry.

Well, heck.  How about some help (and education) here.  As you must already know, I'm real new to SASS and CAS.  My first question.  Are you saying Henry Repeating Arms Company didn't make the Henry from the late 1800's?  If not, who did?  I also have an Uberti Cattleman in 45LC but didn't know they made a Henry until about a month ago.  I thought Uberti was making a copy.

I bought the Henry Repeating Arms edition.  Looks good and shoots very well right out of the box.

Thanks to everyone for shedding some light here.  I'll catch on, I promise.

Howdy.

Mabye i'm way out of line here ::)
I have a replica 1860 Henry, 44-40 cal, and i'm wery happy about it 8), it was heavy in use, in the first time, but after much use, it is like to take a walk in the park :D
but it seems it is very particular how kind of shells i have been using. and 1 thing more, i have never fig it out how to put it in parts for clean it ???

I have never use Henry Big Boy, but it seems very nice, as for me, i'm holding on to the original copy's,,,,and black powder loads.

Well, Howdy!

I was one of the "no opinion" voters.  I'd change that to a "yes" if I could.  I'd have most of my interest in the 1866 Improved Henry, but since an Uberti made 1860 was the first replica lever action I ever shot, it holds a lot of interest, too.  I'm STILL kickin' my own a$$ for lettin' that one get away from me, since it was for sale when I shot it.

Not to be down on the New Henry Big Boy, but I, too would be mostly interested in the originals and Uberti replicas.  As well as any others that might be in the future.

Thanks to Marshal H, I WAS able to change my vote!  It put us ahead of the Nay-sayers.
Thanks Marshal Halloway !!!! :D

so far, it looks like the nay say-ers have us... to bad.

I'm happy to see a US company like Henry producing good 22's and now the 45's offerings , thought they are unlikely to get NCOWs , I'm fine with SASS approval.

I've owned two 1860 Henrys and one 66 Yellow-boy in the last 25 years. One 1860 a shorter Carbine in 44/40 (I literally wore the blue off this one), and the Yellow-boy SRC in 38, I sadly allowed both to get away from me.
My latest a 45Colt Mil. was a gift from my wife six years ago , will always have a position in my safe , and is my main stage rifle.

I would have enjoyed a forum of like minded Henry shooters :(

thanks Joss

I'd shoot NCOWS, if there was a posse here in Fla. ( I work toward that end, by talking to others with my mind set )
There are a few , but are out numbered by the B western buscadero types here.... noth'n' wrong with that,   I'm just past it.

Henry's ,Spencer's, Hammered Double's, C&B & Opentops have replaced my Marlin, Race Rugers, & Stoeger as my game of choice.

Chance

I will surely support this one. I'm on my third Uberti Henry and this one is for keeps. It's a 24" white barrelled .44/40 and will strike matches at fifty yards.

Hell-Er High Water

I say, let's go for it.  As long as it is for original Henry's (and modern reproductions) and not the new production/design Henry which is a replica of nothing !!!!!!!

Since I have both an 1860 Henry and a 66 I would be somewhat interested.  I enjoy shooting the Henry but don't use it in matches all that much.  maybe I'll start again.

I shoot an 1866 Winchester rifle as my main match rifle. I have a good friend that shoots an 1860 Henry at both SASS and NSSA matches. I voted no on this poll because I think there's already sufficient discussion boards on this site to discuss topics involving the Henry and all firearms used in CAS.

Just last year there was serious discussion in the NSSA to ban the 1860 Henry due to several serious accidents during the loading process for that rifle. The NSSA decided to keep the weapon, but only allowed it to be loaded one shell at a time, not using the magazine, during the individual matches at NSSA skrimishes. The accidents involved loaded rounds firing off in the magazine during the loading process. The NSSA testers found that if the shooter let the follower fall without resistence, the rounds in the magazine could and did fire. One NSSA member was very seriously wounded in the hand by just such an accident.

You asked for a poll and you got one, but look at the numbers. 11 voted for the board (started with 10 but one guy changed his mind) and 14 voted either no or no interest. This topic to date has been visited 225 times, but less then 10% even bothered to vote on the poll at all. That's 225 out of 2206 CAS City members. I don't think that displays a great deal of interest in such a new board. If everyone feels it's so needed, why haven't you supporters posted more topics particular to the 1860 Henry on the existing boards.

OK, I've had my two cents.

Lone Gunman

The 1860 Henry is such a fine rifle that even early on Hollywood sought to fake it by tearing the wood off some of their 1892's.  ;D  Since owning one I've lost weight, gotten smarter, and am better looking. The notion of the '66 being an 'improvement' is debatable (I have both and a '73). Here's some pictures of a transitional Henry before Mr King put that ugly hole in the side of the frame:

Safety ....That's a good point !

As Big John pointed out the Henry can have loaded rounds firing off in the magazine during the loading process.
Hence a good reason to have a Henry Forum.

I witnessed just such an accident, a new Henry owner loaded ten (correct for the stage) and accidentally allowed the released follower to slam when he rotated the Barrel. The result was a single round fired in the Magazine & some luck !
The injuries included a minor 1/4" penetration wound to midsection of the RO, and a powder burned and blood blistered hand to the Owner/loader both required a trip to the Hospital.
Some luck, because it could have been much worse.

I'd like to see the Henry Forum, there is always room for safety. But I can argue with the numbers. When you look at "Most Popular Boards By Activity" in profiles there are several forums with little activity.
I say give it a try, it can always be dropped.
