For ALL, Return to your Homes and Families.  The catastrophe is now thought to have been an accidental Coal Dust Explosion.  No valid reason for Hostilities.  Remain Clam!!

I am aware of this theory as well as the one stating that a coal bunker fire heated the adjoining bulkhead to the point that it ignited the powder magazine. Hindsight is almost always 20/20.

If Adm. Hyman Rickover could positively determine the cause, who could?
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Rickover gave his engineers the conclusion he wanted, then made them work to fit the evidence to it.  This is a fascinating book.

Coincidentally I trained with my 1893 trapdoor today with excellent results.
We're good to go!

General, I am preparing my arms and ammunition for the unavoidable conflict which will occur in June. Should the ammunition for my .45 Colt artillery model be loaded with the newfangled "smokeless" powder, or will the troops be provided with surplus black powder rounds? I am doing preliminary sighting for my fine Krag Jorgensen carbine, so in the event a combatant shows himself at 300 yards I will be able to eliminate the threat.

Respectfully Yours,

Corporal Ira "Broken Nose" Scotty

I just realized I have never answered you question about ammunition.

You may load your Colt with whatever ammunition you choose for the main match as your choice of smokeless powder and your Krag will put you in the smokeless military 2-gun class.
