Practicing and improving my skills.  Want to build a muzzel loader real soon,  need to do some studying but want to build a late, Midwest style, half stock, walnut half stock, minimum furniture, no brass, 31 or 32 caliber percussion.

Afternoon all.

Weather took an unexpected turn for the warmer today.  51 and blue skies.  Hit 15 last night, though.
Got the dog all nice and walked out, so now I'm going to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee.

I like your flintlock there Major. Muzzle loading was the first serious shooting that I ever did. Built a couple myself. Never got bit by the rendezvous bug though. Short story. In my misspent youth traveling across Canada (summer of 1973) I met a self taught gunsmith in Swift Current ,Sasketchuan and we hit it off. He invited me to go prairie dog hunting. He was using an original Sharps carbine, maybe a .50-70 as he had to make his own brass and he let me use his .50 cal front loader. I had a blast to say the least. I wounded a couple but he killed more than a few. I wish that I had spent the summer there and let him teach me something. Dale Freisen was his name, a nice guy.

"M2 is that a True Cavalry Bit on the rack?"

It is Sir,  Circa 1863 ...one of several including a 1874 SHOEMAKER and a 1836 Dragoon Bit.

if of interest.... The sabers are an 1862 Emerson & Silver ( M1860) and an Ames M1840 Wrist Breaker  dated 1857

To the left cased in glass is 2nd Model Griswold & Gunnison made in 1863 & on the Right an 1860 Army 3 screw lettered 1862 and shipped to the 5th Iowa Cavalry.

Afternoon all.

Weather is expected to get real exciting here pretty quick.  Forecast is calling for lightening and hail with 30+mph winds which will become sn*w.  Accumulation of 6-24" expected.  Got wood stacked inside, gas in the generator and plenty of animal feed, since it's expected to close all the mountain passes for at least today and tomorrow.  And since we live in a bowl, the only way in or out is through a mountain pass.
The usual suspects are already posting "we will survive" quotes on Facebook, while the rest of us are pulling out the sleds. ::)

The white stuff has started.  No lightening associated, and no accumulation yet.  Temperature has hit 33.

And what does that meme have to do with the topic of this thread?

I think it's a tad bit inappropriate.
