I am about to order a Cimarron Artillery model and was wondering first, does anybody have any input on this gun and second, does anybody make a base pin for it without the safety notch??

The Artillery is an old model frame, same as any other Old Model P (tapered blade front sight, V-notch rear), plus the military markings: cartouche on grip, U.S. marking on frame, and I think some other marks on gripframe.  That is the Uberti.  There is a Pietta version as well which I think does not have the gripframe markings and I believe has more modern squared front and rear sights.

The Uberti cylinder pin can be replaced with a Colt pin.  And I think maybe VTI also carries a standard single-notch Uberti base pin that fits.  On mine with BP frames, I just grind off about 1/8" or so from the back end and polish it smooth, so it pushes all the way in.

In a pre-war model the safety notch is no big deal if you remember about it.  But on the BP frame guns, getting the base pin in exactly the right position before tightening the screw is important if you don't want it to come loose with firing, and if you use a shortened or standard single-notch base pin then the notch is in exactly the right place when pushed all the way in.

And BTW, the Uberti pre-war models are all being made now with the new Uberti retractable firing pin safety hammer, but at least for now the Cimarron Old Model frames will still come with the standard hammer from what I understand.

Try Belt Mountain Enterprises. I purchases a few for my Uberti's as well as a Ruger.

So, is the Uberti Base Pin the exact same size as the Colt Base Pin? If so, I can get one that is correct for the black powder frame from Peacemaker  Specialist

yes, same.

The Uberti pin thru VTIgunparts.com is UB:400021/noSafety and is $18.  Likely a lot less than a Colt pin.

What about the hammer block safety? Do the Cimarron/Uberti Artillery's(and other Cimarron/Uberti Old Model P's) have the hammer block safety?
