Lately I've been wanting to build a Meanea type scabbard, I was mainly inspired by Skeeter Lewis build. I know in most area I messed up and doesn't look much like a Meanea one. But I'm doing my best without a pattern. I bugged Mr. Carrico one too many times and I tried to make my own. I'll keep you all posted while I continue to finish it.
Here's my carbine on top of it, it measures around 31"

Here it is folded

and here it is spread out, the end cap is not the Meanea style and the length isn't the right size but I used what leather I had.

Looks like it'll be a good scabbard. You going to dye it or just oil it?

I'll probably just oil it, i think oil'd leather looks better as it ages

Your scabard should be a dandy, thanks for sharing..

Thanks for showing your work.  I will start my attempt using the 'Old West Pattern' after Christmas.  No real time or space to start to make any attempt at this time.

Looks great so far and good luck with the continuous work and effort.

Yeah, there's a special quality to oiled leather. Good choice.

During new years I got around to finishing the scabbard, at least 14hrs hand sewing! i still didn't add edge koat but I'll get around to it, took me awhile to post as I just forgot too.

Here it is laid out on the table getting ready for sewing.

Every little hole i punched out with a sharpened eyeglass screwdriver and spaced out with the compass thing

Sewing had begun and it took me an 1hr and a half to get here, getting used to saddle stitching

Here i am sewing on the "O" rings and adding the copper rivets on the lower end

Not the prettiest rivet setting job

Here it is finished it turned out pretty good if I'd say so

My rifle fits it pretty good, I know the Meanea ones were 37" long, this one is about 31", I didn't have enough leather but that didn't stop me!  ;D

Here's my 66 laying next to it. such a pretty rifle to go with my handmade scabbard!

Congratulations, pard. That looks like it'll do the job. Good, solid work, there.
