This one has probably been posted before, but just in case, take a look at http://percussionrevolvers.com/index.php?topic=365.msg383#msg383  I ran across it while searching for images of engraved 1860s.

In my book a pioneer is a man who turned all the grass upside down, strung bob-wire over the dust that was left, poisoned the water, cut down the trees, killed the Indian who owned the land and called it progress.  Charles M. Russell

That is a classic! even the hammer is engraved ....

But I wonder what the button on the left side of the frame is for?

The gripframe was what got me.  It is far more elegant and fitting to the period of use than some of the modern efforts along similar lines.  Don't know for sure, but I suspect that button is for some carry or retention device, not a Bridgeport rig but maybe something similar?

Isn't that also called a avenging angel (or something with "avenging" in the name)?
