Pedersoli Hawken Rifle

Glad to hear it!  I got mine used, and haven't gotten to shoot it yet.  (I'm not wild about shooting in 30mph wind!)  The thing is beautiful and the quality seems excellent.  Can't wait to start shooting it!

You still thinking about a muzzleloading  "skirmish run" at Jerrys? I don't think it would be necessary to provide quite as target rich of an environment as the Muster.

Got to shoot my Pedersoli Hawken yesterday........great rifle!  I'm using .530 balls.  Has anyone ever used .525 balls to make them load a bit easier?  Is it something that's even feasible?

RCBS makes a .520 mold, that I use with an old Santa Fe Hawken that came in .53 cal.

Both guys I know shooting these are using .535" round balls, with .017" or thicker patching, on top of some significant powder charges.  Both guys are using oiled patches; one is using neatsfoot oil, not sure what the other is using.

I have an old Lee .527 mold that I bought in hopes it will work with my Uberti Santa Fe Hawken .53 caliber rifle. I have not yet cast any but maybe I should try them in both my Uberti and my Pedersoli. Track of The Wolf sells both .520 and .526 balls and they both work well in my Uberti.

The link posted by Chance is of the Pedersoli Traditional Hawken, it does not resemble a Hawken. The one that actually looks like a Hawken is the Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken with a 1:65" twist barrel, or the Pedersoli Missouri River Hawken which is the same rifle as the Rocky Mountain but with a 1:24" twist barrel.

For target shooting I use 70gr 3F , .535 ball and an .010 Ox-yoke patch.  Jw
