 ;D Howdy to the camp!

Well the Taylor's 44-40 Spencer arrived today.  Its a beauty!  Holds 7 rounds, and functions and ejects flawlessly (as long as you snap it open).  If the monsoons that have struck northern California abate, I will shoot it this weekend and report.  I have decided to keep the 56-50, and pass this one on (as tempting as it is), so it will be looking for a good home. I have a 56-50 Infantry rifle coming also, and three Spencers would be just too much!

Also in the box is a new FORGED frame Uberti 1858.  NICE!!!!!!!!!!!  That I will undoubtedly keep<g>

Besides,

I just sold Yankee Bandit my 45 Colt Henry so I could buy Major's 44-40 Henry (I have been wanting to get another 44-40 Henry like I started with for years!).  Now that I have a 44-40 that holds 13,  if I am feeling the need not to reload on a stage (or the rifle targets are so small they won't let me shoot the 56-50), I have the 44-40 Henry.  A 44-40 Spencer would be redundant with two 56-50s in the stable.

Actually, I can't afford to keep a third SPencer <g>

44-40 Henry is about as PERFECT of a companion rifle for Spencer owners as you can get.

Lets see, 56-50 Spencer? Check! 44-40 Henry? Check! Pair of 1858 NMA revolvers? Check!

gonna be a darn good SASS/NCOWS shooting season this summer.

Rumor has it that when they made the 44-40 RIFLE they left the Bar & Ring on it just like the carbine.  Does your rifle have the bar & ring like the carbine?

The 44-40 I just got is a carbine.  For now, the only infantry rifles planned on being built are 56-50s.  Yes, they did leave the ring and bar on the rifles.  For the limited run of rifles, it would not have been cost effective to re-machine and delete it, according to Tammy.  They will already be almost $1100 dealer!  I should have my rifle in the next month (I HOPE!!!!)

I think I saw a picture in Marcots book of a rifle with  a bar and ring.  Seems to me it was a civil War carbine, redone into an Infantry Rifle in 1865 or some such.  I don no, maybe I am mis-remembering<g>.

Personally I think that Tammy is just blowing smoke when it comes to the machining of the RIFLE.  I don't do a lot of CNC but it would seam to me that all that would be necessary is to adjust the program to not cut the area for the bar plate in both the stock and receiver.
Also you are correct there were some Spencer carbines made into 2 band rifles, but this was done after the war was over.

HOwdy,

You maay be right, or it may be Armi Sport blowing smoke to Tammy.  They probable did not want to bother retooling, so told her it was too expensive.  I would imagine the total production numbers of the rifle version will be in the hundreds, rather than the thousands.

I would venture a guess to say that the CW folks will buy more Spencers than the CAS Types.  Most CAS folks do not care about style points like I do.  I don't think they will come out with short stroke kits, or "lightning rods" for the Spencer anytime soon.  I could trim the follower on the Spencer mag tube and fit another round, but even that seems like blasphemy!

I have been shooting CAS eleven years and still place at the bottom.  Every time I start picking up speed, I find something to make me slowert, but styling!  1st it was the Henry, then hammered doubles, then Duelist, Then BP, then a Spencer, etc!

TL,

Have you been able to shoot the 44-40 yet?  I'm just wondering if the firing and function is as good as on the 56-50.  Also, what kind of pills have you put through it - factory loads, handloads, BP, smokeless, etc?

Thanks,
Bandit

I resemble that remark and almost in that order  ;D

But I'm philosophical about it... I figure , It's been my pleasure to make new shooters feel like they are gamers, cause maybe they are faster.
