Taken a while back , looking over the old back fence of the Muleshoe ranch down along the Mexican border . That canyon behind the Sharps rifle leads down to the Rio Grande . It is still very wild country , some of the most remote in the nation. A lot of wild critters to hunt down there. Starting to get a stir in my bones . ,,,DT

I'm hoping for a cold hunting season this year. Last year, I didn't get out because it was warm. I might be a bit of a wimp, but I hate having bugs in my face and ears, when I'm trying to be still and listen for deer. Then you have all the deer ticks to deal with. A week in the lower 40's would work, two would be better.

That's a real beauty of a rifle there Dusty. You must be in great shape to carry that georgeous chunk of steel around that part of the Wild West. How big is the hole on her?

Dont know about good shape Ed . I was huffing and puffing when I was able to lean that old .45 cal. Sharps on that post. It has a heavy oct. barrel , 45- 3 ,1/4" case and a Randy Oats  6 X scope on it weighs a ton , but sure can shoot far with it , makes the carry worth it  . Hunt Desert Mule deer , Javelina , Mt. Lion,  and Aoudad sheep down there . Starting to get good bit of Elk , may  start hunting them soon.  We have Black bear ( protected), Desert Big horn , and Antelope  ( By Permit only) also but do not hunt them.  And every once in a while a Bandito or two !  You are right it is the Wild West ! ,,, DT

It makes my heart ache.  I haven't been able to hunt since my former wife got my hunting land in the divorce.  According to the divorce agreement I was to have access but her current husband keeps changing the locks and it's not worth the hassle to fight it in court.

That's a sad story there Mr. Will . A man need's a place to get out in the wild country even if game is not taken . It's good for the soul . And a man that locks another from this bit of freedom , well he has none . ,,,DT

I didn't mean to hijack this thread.  Let's get back to hunting... although a year ago at my Great grand Daughter's first birthday I told Joan, my former wife to thank Rick, her current husband, for me. When she asked my why I told her for taking her off my hands.   :o. Still I sure miss the hunting.  ;)

Sounds more like Will Ketchum--Will Releasum. I watched a very pretty whitetail buck, at least an 8 pointer just last week, standing in a field with a pair of does. It does get you excited. But every time I think maybe I'd like to hunt I remember the bugs, snakes and aggravating rigmarole that you have to go through if you don't own hunting property and I come to my senses. I love my old guns and love to shoot 'em so that will have to be enough.
Here I am hunting some of those darn tootin whipper snappers with my goldanged Marlin.
