Did it.  Since I decided to keep the Henry in .45 Colt/Schofield, I was looking for got a good deal on a 44-40 Henry or 1866.  I found a used (99%) 1866 Uberti with a 24" barrel, in 44-40. I got it for about $800. Selling the Rossi 44-40 1892 and a non-CAS pistol will cover it....This way I have BOTH a Henry and 1866.  I have a feeling the 1866 will be primary, and the Henry will be back-up main match rifle, replacing the Rossi 92.

Originally, I had thought of the 92 doubling as a brush gun with hot 200 grain JSP loads (around 2,000 fps with 2400 powder). Since I found this 1866, it became expendable because I already have a Marlin 336 in 30-30 for brush busting.

I'm going to be like Ralphie waiting on Christmas Eve, for his Red Ryder BB gun!

I've had a '66 in .44-40 for twenty five years.  You'll love it!

Thanks,  I had a 24" 1866 in .38-40 for a Cowboy Chronicle article about 12 or 14 years ago, and loved it.  One hole groups at 25 yards, and an inch at 50.  Arranged for my pard Hanging Judge Hemp to pay for it and keep it after the article.  He still has it.  I love the 38-40 as a caliber, but the 44-40 is more universal.  I already have two 1873 Uberti SAA clones in .44-40 (one a Thunderer grip 4.75" and one a nickel 4.75").  When using those, it is one caliber for all at a match.  When I use my Open Tops, it will just mean a different rifle caliber.  Both calibers (45 Schofield and 44-40) I load with a 200 grain bullet and 7 grains of trail Boss, so performance is the same all around.

Also, with the 100 degree plus temperatures in Northern California, it will be nice not to have the "Henry Off-Hand Finger Sizzle" ::)

Wooo Wooo!  My new to me (used) .44-40 1866 Uberti, 24" Sporting Rifle is at the dealer's place.  He is a fellow shooter at our SASS club, and he is bring it (and the the .45 Schofield Taylor's just sent me) to the match to start the 10 day jail on them.  The cool thing is he said I can "test fire" them at the match! ;D  I think 50 rounds from the rifle and 25 from the Schofield will be a good test....

WOW!     ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The FFL brought it to the match for me to "test fire" , and I shot it as my main match rifle. Awesome1  I shot clean including 20 of the shots being clay pigeons at 25 yards!  It is slick and smooth, and I think it has light springs in it.  When I get it, I will, break her down and check while i thoroughly clean it.  I LOVE THIS THING.  It is even more accurate (or I am more accurate with it) than my .45 Colt 1850 Henry!

Well sure, but that is because your 1850 Henry was just a prototype  ;D

Funny thing is, I kept expecting to do the "Henry Hop" with my off hand, and I did not get Henry finger sizzle, even though it was 100 degrees in the shade today.

Wooo-weee! ;D  The prior owner had done something to prematurely give it tarnished look, but with the mint finish stock, forearm, and barrel, it didn't look quite right.  So out with the Brasso!  In 15 minutes, I got it looking like a new gun.   Wow...very 1866 sexy.  Now if I can figure out how to post pics without those b@st*rds at Photobucket...

Try this!  I was surprised.  When I cleaned off the intentional tarnish, it is virtually mint!

I did not do a super thorough job with the Brasso.  I could have buffed a little more, and gotten in every crack and cranny, but I call this good.
