Hi

I've found two uniform reference books from Amazon:

The Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection: 1898–1902 (Men-at-Arms) by Alejandro de Quesada

and

SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR 1898 (Brassey's History of Uniforms) Hardcover 166 page, at $65 new.

Are they any other Spanish American War uniform references?

Thanks

Coon Creek has the "Cowboys in Uniform" book for half of what Amazon is asking.  S & S Firearms has it for $16.95.  Of course, they always have other stuff you need, as well!

Don't forget to consult the uniform regulations, either.  They're on the GAF website.

You also might check the same titles on  www.abebooks.com    Sometimes available at good prices.  I've gotten some very good original reference material at reasonable prices.

What scares me is I currently have on the bookshelves of my den each and every title listed by Ned and Drydock.

This brings to mind what could become a new stickied thread.  If the someone would post a books reference page beginning with what we have posted here.  Then invite everyone to reply with other good reference books.  From time to time the original poster could move the links people have posted up into his original post placing them into a chronological order possibly broken up into wars CW, IW, Span Am, Punitive Expedition and maybe even WWI as many of these cross back over into Expansion Era.

Ordered Cowboys in Uniform from S&S along with a shirt and a McKeever pouch.  Can't have too much .45-70.

HI

I received Cowboys in Uniform, which is a pretty short book, 78 pages.  On the other hand, it DOES have all two of the uniforms worn by the cowboys in uniform.  Do those of you owning an 1884 fatigue uniform wash it regularly, or dry clean, or ...  I really liked the way that the faded one looked.

Daughter looked at the pictures on line and made disparaging remarks about my outfit and facial expression.

Cold water wash on gentle cycle, hang dry.  My cotton flannel shirts from River Junction get the same treatment, the wool flannel gets Woolite in the sink.

I wash my wool shirt in the machine with lots of fabric softener on the gentle cycle, then line dry and stretch it as it dries.

I received this 1899 photo from Dutch Al.

I wash my British greyback shirt in cold with Woolite on the gentle cycle.  Hang it up on a plastic hangar to dry.  Never had any shrinkage problems that way.

My grandfather, John Gaberial Smith (standing) was in the Spanish American War.  This is the only photo we have of him in uniform.
