This picture is from a Great Western Alchimista II purchased thru EMF. With less then 10 rounds fired my cylinder started to spin freely regarless of hammer position. When I tore it down this is what I noticed.  Guys in another forum are telling me this is not the norm.

Looks like an all thumbs, cobbled up, kitchen table hack job....
I'm a kitchen hack and would do better than that .... ::)

Didn't come from Pietta that way, note the boogered screw , The spring wire made from a safety pin  looks to have been cut with side cutters. Get an OEM Pietta spring from VTI and bury that Bobby pin deep deep...

I take it the gun was sold used ?

Be interesting to see what Coffin maker , Pettyfogger & Hoof Harted  have to say

Nope It was purchased New from EMF Directly . I put a Hammer Spring in and removed the leaf spring but nothing else was touched. Unless I purchased a Gun from EMF that had been sold before . I sent them a Picture and haven't heard back yet.  Somehow I got the short end of the stick it would seem/

Here is what a wire Bolt spring looks like.... I personally don't care for them...some do...

In any case , yours is some kind of homemade safety pin or paper clip  mock up  :-\

and here is what the OEM spring would be

Hey Guys Thanks: Your comments gave me the notion to look at what came in the box. I honestly had never bothered. I found the Spring in the picture . Infact there was one of each. So now that I have something to fix the issue I have 2 other questions:

1: Is there some torque spec on the Spring screw?

2: Every other screw in both the Backstrap and Trigger guard are recessed except the one in the picture : Did someone re-install the wrong screw? See Pic Below:

Major 2

I'd say so....it should not be standing proud of the guard like that ...

Pettifogger

Some information or something is missing from this thread.  It is obvious the gun in the photo was not new.  I find it hard to believe EMF would sell something they knew was cobbled up by some amateur smith.  The screw in the trigger guard in the photo is not the correct screw.  The buggered up screw holding in the bolt spring and the spring itself were poor work.  Oh, there is no torque spec for the spring screw.  OP are we gettilng the whole story?  You ordered this gun from EMF new and this is what you got from EMF?  If so you should be sending it back.

Parts cobbled gun ?  ...the EMF Great Western II , "Great Western Alchimista II"  the Op says it is.  ???

EMF Great Western II has a Steel Trigger guard .....

shown is Brass , 1860 TG , wrong screw , paper clip bolt spring and buggered BS screw ....

someone's parts mock up ....and ham hocked at that ....

EMF, didn't do that ....  no way EMF would send that out as new ....

Sorry I had the wrong screw: I will say it doesn't help that none of the 5 screws are exactly the same size. 3 have sloppy angle cuts. Plus it's my fault for not paying closer attention. Actually I did pay attention to the screw order. I started second guessing myself on the re-install when I noticed the 2 backstrap screws were differently sized length wise. I've since checked them under magnification and see that one has a angled cut on the end. So with the naked eye appeared shorter. Fortunately the thread pitch appears to be the same on all 5 screws. Even though none of them measure the same length using calipers.

I  I have owned this gun for at least 2 years. Maybe a little longer. I just recently got around to get ready to shoot with it when I notice the problem. EMF says if there was an issue I should have reported it sooner. From their standpoint they can't say I didn't mess it up myself, and now am trying to get them to take care of my problem.

I fully understand that . After-all it is every bit of a 2 year old purchase. I'm just going to order all 5 New Screws . With shipping it doesn't come to $30.00. 2 of the screws are pretty buggered up. And I didn't do it. I have a nice brownell's set of heads with a wooden handle. There's over 30 bits . Finding the exact size is a no brainer. As you know this makes screw removal easy.  None of mine were hard to remove.

It's pretty obvious someone has played around with this gun. Lesson learned on my end. Fortunately the fixes are cheap and easy.

I might even owe my life or at least my eyes and hands to blank rounds. If I'd been using live ammo I'd have been screwed.

Thanks for the help everyone : To Major a special thanks for details
