I went to one of the LGS on Wednesday and asked if they could order a Uberti 1860 Henry for me.  Unfortunately they could  ;D so my wallet is lighter and it is on the way from their distributor.  When it gets here I can do the paperwork and then I have to wait 10 days to take it home (California).

   Greetings!

BRAVO on your new, pending acquisition! Give Us more information on the juicy details,
i.e., Brass or "iron", chambering, why the Henry, etc.
P.S. ~ About where in CA do you hail from? I'm formerly from SoCal, now in Colorado.

Oh boy, are you going to enjoy that rifle!  The waiting period must be maddening.

My Henry is the one with the Brass frame in 45 Colt.  I have wanted a Henry for about two years and finally got around to ordering it.  I will use it for Civil War reenacting and CAS.  I am in Santa Clara Valley in California and have lived here all my life (73 years)

PayDirt-- since you have spent your life in Calif you must remember the very early 60's when I was there.  Calif was a paradise and at that time and the high schools even had shooting teams which is where I learned to shoot and handle firearms.

Welcome to the Henry family!  I have been using an 1860 Henry about 2/3 of the 23 years I have been in SASS.  My current one is brass framed, in 45 Colt also.  If you feed it .45 Schofields, it will take 14 in the magazine, instead of 13.

I load a 200 grain bullet in a 45 Schofield case with either 7.1 grains of Unique, or 7.0 grains of Trail Boss.  It gives about 1125-1150 fps from the rifle, and exactly duplicates the original .44 henry flat in ballistics.

You can get .45 Schofield Cheyenne Cartridge boxes from Midway USA or Buffalo Arms, and re-label them with this original label:

Print at about 30%, and use rubber cement..

Three pistols in the Old West were factory issued in .44 Rimfire to go wil the 1860s qnd 1866s: 1871/1872 Open Top, 1873 Single Action Army (limited production and special order), and Smith & Wesson #3 top breaks.  There were also gunsmith conversions of 1858 Remingtons, 1860 Colts, Dragoons, and even Starr.

Thanks for the label. I saved it and will use it for some cartridge boxes.

When you get it home, PLEASE break it down completely and clean out all of the residual brass and steel grit that Uberti leaves behind.  You'll be glad you did.

That is the first thing I do with all of my guns I buy.

If you don't already know, the sideplates on the Henry are dovetailed front and rear, so they need to be slid out vertically (might need a plastic/rubber mallet the first time).  And beware as the edges are often very sharp.

Right on the side plate.  I was looking at a video on you tube and they indicated that you should look out for the side plate as it is sharp! Now only nine days to go before I can pick it up.

I forgot to ask a question in the previous post.  How do you keep the Brass part shiny?  I don't want to use something that would mess it up, any-recommendations?

any number of products out there ..Brasso, Fritz, Wright's, Never Dull  & Semi Chrome all are brass polish...
you just want polish , not compound.

personally,  I just let the Patina happen

Coffinmaker

There are three, perhaps four schools of thought.

1st - Bust yer bunns with rags and polish and keep that sucker really bright.

2nd - Allow it to tarnish some and polish it once in a while.

3rd - Deliberately add an aged "patina" to be "authentic."

Yep .... theres four.  4th - I'm lazy and I shoot BP and Subs.  My Henry (4) rifles, depending on your view, either look real crappy ... or Authentic.  I prefer "Authentic."  I don't own a can or tube of polish.  Oh, right, and I'm lazy.  I subscribe to the lazy method of Brass Rifle maintenance.  Clean the inside and let the outside take care of itself  ;D

Pettifogger

Yep, I also use option 4.  Shoot BP and/or subs and let it "patina" naturally.  Bright shiney receivers hurt your eyes here in the desert.
