1871 Springfield

I won an 1871 Springfield at auction today. I won't get my hands on it until next week. Something I didn't notice until today, it is listed as 45/70. Anyone hear of an 1871 in 45/70?

45-70 did'nt exist in 1871, Someone has something wrong one way or another here. Is this a Trapdoor or a Rolling block? Springfield did a run of Rolling blocks for the Navy in 1870/71. THose were 50-70s.

A lot of folks think any US BP cartridge rifle is a "farty five sevunty" Kind of like all Lever Actions must be "Thutty thuttys"

I used to own one of those Springfield Rolling Blocks. In fact, I shot it at the Muster a few years ago. VERY well built rifles (better than the Remingtons, I think), as were all rifles by Springfield Arsenal. We'll look forward to pictures!

It depends on the rules of the auction house and how you bid. If bidding absentee (not there) usually tie bids goes to the earliest submitted unless you have put. Plus 1 or 2 meaning they can bid beyond your price by 1 or 2 next increment. And usually live bidders trump absentee bids on ties. My guess is you tied the winning bid and lost on the tie breaking rules.

With a 4 day auction, didn't want to bid on too many things at one time, so pick a couple to bid on day 1, wait for results, pick one or 2 more on day 2. Dat 2 watched both items live, got out bid. Planned to bid on a C96 on day 4, inadvertently selected one from later today. I won a C96 with German & English proof marks in very good condition. Includes an unmatched holster stock combo.

A little outside of our time period, but I'd love to see photos of the C96 when you have it. Mine has German and Austrian (1918) proofmarks.

CCGriff: Not out of our time period at all! It's about the only pre-1900 Auto pistol you're likely to see at a GAF Muster.

Finally took delivery of the C96, bore is excellent, looking forward to test shoot.

Took to the range, fired 20 of my reloads, lead at 1000 fps, & 10 factory, had one misfeed with the factory, Other than that functioned well.

Working on my 308 loads for my converted Chilian 1895 Mauser. Purchased 250 rounds of once fired brass, after full length resizing, only 150 will chamber. Ordering a batch of primed Lake City brass to try. I will do full length resize on the remaining 100, try again.
