Hello the Camp
I am a'comin' in peaceful like

Just acquired a pound of GOEX cannon powder granulation. I realize it is a grade coarser  than Fg not any thing different otherwise, but do you thing it is too course to use in a shotgun.
My load is 4.0 c/c Gun Powder, a card over powder wad, a 1/2"  lubed felt wad and 4.0 c/c of shot usually #7 1/2 or #9 roll or pie crimped in plastic ( rifenhauser not compression formed) or Federal paper cases. I refer to it as my "gamer" load because with Fg it looks like I am turning a pear burner on the targets.
My question to this vast sea of knowledge will it work or will most of the powder be blown burning out the muzzle? It will be used on KD targets at about the minimum SASS recommended distance.

If any of you north of Waco people want to know what a pear burner I will be glad to educate you. Just ask this old broke down cow man.

As a side note on pear burners, I also seem to recall that Texas Ranger Frank Hamer had a rifle (a Remington Model 8 ) that he called his "pear burner" due to the flames that shot out of the barrel during rapid fire in the dark.  I've been wanting for years to try one out...

It doesn't help your question, but I think it's kind of interesting.

The canon powder will work and get lots of style points because of the flames.

I used to add cannon powder to My nighttime CAS shoot loads for the spark effect.

Hi There Hellgate.
I sort of figured it would be wondrous and unfortunately 4.0 c/c is all I can get in those cases. I just might bring some marshmallows for the spotters, that would be the funniest thing yet.

Not to be snarky and take this the right way, but 14 guns down here in Texas would be considered a nice little collection.

Personally I was OK with only one safe and a couple os guns under my bed until I contracted a bad case of gottagitanothergunitis, a condition common with shooters of SASS type guns. Now, at about the cost of a new Jaguar roadster and two more safes I am almost cured, broke but cured. (or perhaps just in remission)

Not a Problem!  I use Skirmish 1F and it is Goex's repackaged Blasting Powder!  ;D

Lost in the mist of time, I once bought some Chinese bp (LIDU).  Crap, pure crap.  I finally used it up in my SASS shotguns.  It also worked pretty good at killing boxelder bugs.  I now have some Fg Goex that I'll use up in my 10ga guns.  Everything else gets Schuetzen or better powder.

Thanks Pards
Since my shooting is at SASS minimum range and anaccuracy lever of minute of Volkswagen is sufficient Swiss or even Olde Enysford would be overkill.
My next week project will be to turn out a box of "C" marked shells and a baggie  of marshmallows for the spotters.
FAR and SMOKE!!
That report will be next Saturday when the DRR shoots.

You could take up a side business of burning prickly pears for local ranchers...

I think Bunk would be kept busy just trying to burn up the prickly pears on his own ranch!  ;D

Remission only and tenuous at best.

A very good diagnoses Dr. Noz

Shot shells loaded with cannon powder might have been a bright idea, but there was not enough room in the case to get enough weight of powder to work. They did knock down the targets, but just barely. They just did not develop the energy to propel the 4.0 c/c of #9 shot hard enough.
They did put out fire and smoke so my next try will be with more powder, shorter wad column and a tighter crimp. I got a pound to play with and it was a gift so we shall see.
Shooting stuff is fun

Bunk; Just a thought. What about drop-tubing the powder. May or may not help the ballistics, but would give a bit more space.

Brass Hulls Padawan.  Brass hulls.  Brass hulls will have plenty of room for powder.  Just skip the fusion wad and use a 10Ga plastic wad over the powder.  BOOMBA!!

PS:  Sufficient for Prickly Pears or Cacti too  ;D

It is just a matter of energy. Cannon powder is a granulation bigger than Fg much the same as the difference between Fg and FFFFG.
The granules are about #6 shot size. My next test will be to get the same weight of cannon powder as the weight of the 4 c/c of FFg which is what I am using now. If I can get some shot in there in theory that should work.
Really don't intend to waste much time on this project I got plenty of other rat killin' to get done .
Yes brass cases most likely  would work but my brass case supply is limited to a few Winchester former GI cases and they tend to split and I don't have any proper wads so I will pass on that, but thinks anyway.
