Hello everybody
The leadership of the GAF has always taken pride in the fact that we are responsive to the comments and concerns of the membership. With that in mind I feel I must address some concerns that have arisen at the last couple of Grand Musters and I want to make sure everyone has time to plan accordingly

The first is that we have been lax on enforcing a couple of the rules guiding the Grand Muster. We have rules in place stating, in effect, that pistols with adjustable sights aren't allowed unless they are an original military firearm with the sights originally installed on it. The only pistol of the period with adjustable sights that I can think of would be the C-96. In the past we had so few members that it really didn't make much difference, but now we've grown to point where we need to start enforcing this rule. If this creates a hardship for anyone because you don't have a pistol without adjustable sights let me know. I'm sure that I have one I can loan you.

The second rule that we need to start enforcing is in regard to the uniform contest. The rules state, in effect, that if you want to be judged for the uniform contest you must fill out an entry form and turn it in to the judges. Some participants have done this in the past but not all have. The uniforms have gotten to be so good and judging them so difficult that from now on if you haven't turned in the paperwork your uniform will not be judged. If nobody turns in the paperwork nobody will be judged.

The final thing I want everybody to be aware of is a change to the rules in regard to the Precision Pistol match. The only divisions are for Black powder and Smokeless. We've always had guidelines stating that participants should hold the pistol one handed if they can with exceptions for health and safety, but we didn't break categories into divisions for one, or two handed grips as SASS and NCOWS do. In the Precision Pistol Match this gives the people using a two handed grip an advantage over those using a one handed grip. Over the last several months several members of my staff, volunteers and I have shot numerous targets using numerous handguns, employing both single and double handed grips. What we found is that on average the difference in the numerical score for the same participant is 4 points better when using a two handed grip than when using a single handed grip. With this in mind people who need to use both hands to shoot their hand gun will be handicapped 4 points. Participants with physical disabilities may apply to the match director for an exemption from this rule.

Thank you for your commitment to the GAF and I look forward to seeing you in June!
