I recently received a uberti horseman for Christmas and since have has a little problems here and there. Mostly because of me. Anyhow, I recently purchased a new bolt and now the cylinder binds and does not let that hammer be pulled back, it will here and there. But only when it wants too, I noticed that the bolt doesn't go down or do anything it's supposed too. Any help would be great.

Here is where I probably , rub you the wrong way.... :-\

It is not intended,  remember you say " Any help would be great. "

you also say,  you have had ".... little problems here and there. Mostly because of me " you  ;)

I suggest you stop .....send it to ....someone,  maybe Gary Barns (Hoof Harted ) or Mike Rudolf  ( Coffin maker ) though retired he might help you out.... :-\

I offer this because, I'd like you to have a more harmonious outcome.....

sometimes, all thumbs and best intentions are not on you side ....  :P

My Dear shooter -

A bolt or hand or trigger is not just a "drop in " part.
Fitting and timing a new bolt or hand or trigger is not as simple as it might seem.

I would like to suggest that you study the articles seen here
http://www.theopenrange.net/articles/

and these forum threads

And if you get serious, you probably will want a copy of  Kuhnhausen's shop manual for the 1873 SAA.

But you made the mistake of disassembling your new revovler before you got a schematic & assembly instructions,
then lost  various bits,
and now need to fit and time a new bolt....

As Major 2 pointed out, this suggests that you probably need more help than we can offer over a forum :-(

You can always contact Uberti, or any one the SAA specialists here who can fix it for you in short order.

Now, on the other hand , after enough study you might do just fine. I messed up a couple cheap brass Colt 1851 copies
before I got the doco and learned how .... about 45 years ago...

good luck

Coffinmaker

Unfortunately, or .... fortunately .... depending on your point of view, when I retired, I did NOT retain my FFL.  Ergo, can't work on "real" firearms (cartridge).  The FEDS frown on me shipping and receiving anything other than Cap Guns.  So:  DONT send it to me!!

In a Uberti, New or Old, the bolt is NOT a drop in part.  It has to be fit and the gun re-timed.  I can probably tell you half a dozen little things to look for and you still won't be able to fix it yourself.  You need a Reputable Gunplumber who understands Single Actions to fit the bolt and retime the action.  Anyway .....

The Hand may be too long
The Bolt probably isn't resetting
The Bolt is not mating to the hammer cam correctly
The Bolt may or may not fit the frame correctly
The Bolt may not fit the frame window correctly
The Bolt stop may be hanging up on the frame
Your just not holding your tongue right.

Tain't necessarily simple.  It can be a combination of "all of the above."  It's a nice gun and it can be fix'd.  Contact Hoof Hearted - aka: Gary Barnes

PS:  Invest in a really powerful flashlight and a very strong magnet.  Them dust bunnies are real killers!!

Professor Marvel

oops i'm too slow, updated my post 3 times, please check the links which could help.

as Coffin pointed out... many possibilities, but the new bolt dragging, not resetting, and perhaps needing leg fitting are the most likely....

remote diagnosis even with a movie is hard...

good luck

( btw I now dissassemble everything in a home-made "glove box"  - saves aggravation )

yeah, my cats jumped up on my table and i lost the original bolt, this one works when it wants too. but the hammer will seize up 90% of the time. so yeah, fitting the new bolt is most likely what's needed

Oh, my, yess....

I too have a helper, a black and white "know it all" cat who insists on jumping up to help....
and that's why I have a DIY  "glove box" to keep him out! I cannot count the  too many tiny computer hardrive screws lost .

good luck, and try dragging  apowerful magnet around on the floor, you may just find the lost bolt.

My cat ( Italian gray ) has just finished reading the original post and related your Uberti horse man was assembled on a Monday morning.

Major 2

Ahh yep ! cats .... the most help they are,  when they are asleep....

Lets see.... Kato, Jigster, Molly ,and the new rag doll kitten (what it's name ) ...

Mike ( drat, I knew that ) took Dakota Ike to remind me you didn't retain your FFL...t'waz a senior moment I had  ::)
DANG, sorry both that....DHO !

nativeshooter..... do reach out to Gary Barnes, that harmonious outcome I spoke of is obtainable  :)

Both Mike (Coffinmaker) & and the good Prof. were far more eloquent in their assessments...

It's kinda like this... I can tune a normally aspirated Webber Carbureted 60's, 70's era Sports Car to the inth degree...
and I can also make a decent Samach  too.....

But when it come to today's injected turbo, 'puter  controlled super trick sportcar's or
a killer Sandwich , I bow to the hot rod tuners & the Sub Shops ...they have the tool's & experience.... ;)

Once you get to the other side of your experience with that shooter...you should be a happy camper

This one (photo) is a balls accurate, slick shooter...

Professor Marvel

I myself used to advise anyone who wants to disassemble these things to stop after removing the grip frame.

Unfortunately that changed with the "new improved hand spring and plunger" !

Not to worry, Shooter, we have all messed up in the past, and are likely to do so again inthe future. That's how one learns LOL.

If you can find the old bolt with a magnet, that would probably solve everything!

One sure way to find it , is to buy another one  ::)
almost equally to insure you'll never need one is to buy a spare....

There is a list of laws to this observation, It comes under the heading "Murphy's Law"

Look it up, you will find one to cover your exact disparity.... :)
