Winter Range (the SASS national championship match) is coming up in about six weeks.  For the past ten years or so GAF Department of the Platte has provided the color guard for their opening ceremonies.  From those of us who are going to be in attendance, I am looking forward to again honoring our colors.  If you're going to be there and are interested in being part of the color guard, please let me know:  you can respond here, send me a PM, or by e-mail (270burns@gmail.com).  This happens on Wednesday, the night before the main match starts about 5PM and takes a half hour or so.  As we all know, it is a right thing to do and I'm hoping you can join me.

Laredo and Scout, thank you.  We'll work out exact timing and gear as we get closer to the match.  Hopefully you have a saber and/or period military long arm.

Colt Laredo

I have a Krag rifle to match with my uniform. I'll bring it along.

Cedar County Sheriff

Col. Burns, sir;
           I am planning to attend WR, and have signed up for the plainsman match at 1400 on Wednesday. If there is time to return to my trailer, change and make it to the opening ceremony, I would be happy to assist with the color guard. I have dress and field uniforms available, but would need to know which to wear for the occasion. Please advise.
  If you are already full up on participants, I'll happily just observe!

Your humble servant,

Douglas Cedar, Col. US Cav.

Cedar County Sheriff - we will be pleased if you can join us for the color guard.  Field or dress uniform - either is fine.  Wear what is easiest or what you like the best.  We will meet inside the main tent about 15 minutes before the ceremony starts and assign positions and clarify commands.  As of now, if you join us there will seven - there is no such thing as "too many".

For those of us who will be participating here is what the schedule looks like for Winter Range opening ceremonies.  The range closes at 5PM, the fly-by is scheduled for 5:10PM and the opening ceremonies begin at 5:30.  The color guard is just about the first thing that will happen.  We will meet just inside the south entrance to the main tent at 5:15.  That should allow us to watch the fly-by and give us time to organize who does what and clarify commands.  Please be in uniform (any from the era will do, frontier time period preferred) and bring along your military type rifle or saber.  See you all on Wednesday at 5:15PM.
