I need a simple, easy to use recipe for egg nog, something that will makes about a pint at a time.  Got lots that will make gallons, have a dozen ingredients, and require a lot of time and effort.

Trying to avoid that.

1 cup cream, 1 cup whole milk, 3 TBS sugar, 1/2 cup brandy, 1/4 cup rye whisky, 2 TBS sherry, 3 large eggs.  Mix liquors together.  Separate the eggs. Add eggs yolks and sugar to liquor mixture and beat until smooth.   Add milk and cream, beating slowly.  Beat eggs whites until stiff and fold into mixture.  Let set in cool place for several days.  Taste Frequently.

Because of the egg white foam you will start out with about 1 quart plus 1 cup.  The air will dissipate in a day and you have 1 quart left. After several days of sampling there will only be a pint left. ;)

This by the way is Geo. Washington's recipe, adapted.  In his day rye was an un-aged whisky and high proof.  The best approximation of the type of sherry he would have used is Lustau's East India Solera Sherry which has the complexity a sea voyage brought to the wine.

Want simpler?  Won't be the same, but you can substitute 2 cups half-and-half for the milk and cream, substitute 3/4 cup bourbon for the brandy and rye, and substitute madeira for the solera sherry.

Buffalo Creek Law Dog

You can buy it already made in the quart size in either Lite or regular.  Just add or don't add your own booze, Usually sold alongside milk in the grocery store.

We have a local dairy here that sells some of the best I have ever tasted.  you just have to know you are going to pay a deposit for the glass bottle.  For you Missouri ruffians, try some of the Shatto dairy eggnog.

Also usually weak and tasteless.

Trader Joe's has the best.  I bought their last six quarts yesterday.

Same recipe, lose the alcohol.  Add a little vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, to taste. Start in the tsp range.  Also add a bit more sweet in the form of brown sugar and raisins.  Start in the TBS range.  You can liquefy the raisins by soaking them in a little hot milk for 1/2 an hour and then pureeing them in a blender (add some of the cold eggnog to get enough to blend properly).

Same Same Here Here.  Local Dairy has really good Nog.  Too good to bother making my own.

A quick tip.  After stirring up your Cinnamon and Egg mix for French Toast, spill some Egg Nog inna mix and thoroughly combine.  Some kind of real TASTY

I have friends (& family)  that will not drink commercial eggnog - too sweet or too thick or ....

This recipe, though, went through a gallon of it way too fast.  Went through 2 gallons of Fish House punch this year, too, come to think of it.  Good thing spending the night is mandatory at Christmas (and this year, Hanukkah) dinner.

That is usually my issue as well, but our local dairy uses Real Sugar, and thus the taste is much superior...
