We had another great state match this year.  If any of you were there chime in, I love to hear what you thought of the weekend.

For the cowboy shoot I exclusively shot a Spencer rifle (44-40), a pair of open-tops & a side by side, all in the Holy Black for the cowboy match.

For the long range side match I shot my 44-40 Spencer for the lever 100 yard competition (bags, sticks and off hand) & shot my 56-50 for the 200 yard lever (bags, sticks and off hand).  I think we had 8 or 10 shooters show up on the hill for the shoot.

I shot horribly off the bags at 100 & 200 - I literally couldn't hit anything.  For some strange reason my shooting got MUCH better and I won the 100 yard off hand competition & had a shoot off on the 100 yard off sticks.  Sadly I under estimated the rounds I would need and lost because I only had three rounds for a 5 round shoot off.  I lost to a guy who is a swat sniper for a local TN county, so I felt pretty good getting second under those circumstances.  I got third at the 200 yard lever off hand.

So in all not bad.  I had a great time & got a hunk of wood for a reward.  Next year we are going to try to have an all Spencer cowboy side match so any of you near enough to make it to TN SASS State for 2017, stay tuned more details will follow.

That 44-40 I got is a tack driver.  I found a great smokeless load for it, 5.0 grains of Red-Dot under a 240 gr .430 bullet no filler.  If any of you have the 44-40 you may want to try it.  Might be a good load for a 45 Long Colt.

Respects - PvtGreg
