The ONLY CAS legal "peep" (peeps are really swell marshmallows too) sights are TANG mounted.  Unfortunately, there are no CAS legal barrel or receiver mounted "peep" sights.  However, you can get "close" with a "Smith" Enterprises Buckhorn flip up Ladder rear sight and a nice correct height front sight.

MR. COFFIN,,,I was hope'n you'd holler at me (you caught the pep), ,,never tried a buck horn sight ,but the stock sight on my chappie ,,flops around and the slide, slips ,will not stay in place. And "yes sir" I did go back and read the cas rules, which prompted the asked question about the "L" type flip-up sight.

Thanks "again"  Hootmix.

Ah So Padawan,

Oh Kay.  The Smith sight base is usually a slightly oversize dovetail and takes some fitting (ball peen hammer  ::))  It may well be an acceptably snug fit for your (ugh) Chappie.  Also, you can flip your OEM (lousy) sight upside down an a solid surface (hard wood) and with a pointy punch, whack (Ball Peen Hammer again) about three punches in the bottom of the sight base.  This will raise small "dimples" in the base and may well tighten up your OEM sight.  HOWEVER:

Twer it I ........... TA DA ...... I'd trash that OEM sight and just opt for the Smith.  Available from Brownells and Buffalo Arms.  Taint cheap, but infinitely better than the OEM thingie.

PS:  Let your Peeps dry out for a couple of weeks and their really tasty  :D

PSS:  For Holloween ....... Purple Peeps is bestest ::)

I have used this buckhorn sight on several rifles, including a Henry. 66 and a 73. I use it as a type of ghost ring. It works very well. I have recommended it to several others here at Cas City and they all seemed to like it.

Howdy Hoot.  That Pirkle book is a great reference for an economical price, ain't it?  If you are talking about the sight that is Figure 3-58 on that page, that is the same style as used on Uberti 19" 1866 carbines, so it is available.  Part number 200055.  I don't know if the size of the sight would be the same as the '76 would need, but it might be an option.  Enough people have changed out that sight on their carbines that you might find a used one cheap.
