Fox Creek Kid

The other day I made the "mistake" of trying to help a young man with an inherited old Uberti SAA clone. I was loafing in a friend's shop when the customer came in and wanted it fixed. The shop sells modern guns and know nothing of antique style guns so I am the "designated hitter". He said it was "jamming" on him when shooting. I looked over the gun (ancient Uberti with a NY importer!!) and everything worked good except that he had never ever cleaned it. Cylinder bushing "frozen" like a popsicle & tons of lead in the FC area and the chambers were just grody as well. :o  I explained to him how to prevent bolt scratches via properly decocking and then offered to clean it up & get it running right. Well, he wanted it done right now and didn't want to pay anything. The stupidity of people when it comes to firearms never ceases to amaze me. They seem to think there is some Gov't program that covers this.  ::) Their time is priceless but they refuse to pay other people for THEIR time.

No wonder Pettifogger & Coffinmaker are half nuts!! I would be too if I had to deal with idiot customers like this for years!!   :o  ;)

Greetings My Dear FCK

you have hit the nail on the head. It is unfortunate that we are not allowed to hit such fools upon the head, it might knock some sense into them, or reconnect the tiny little lizard bits that act as their little grey cells. :-(

QuoteWell, he wanted it done right now and didn't want to pay anything.

that seems to be the case lately, these overage children have been trained by the web that they can get everything they want, instantly, for free.

I like to point out that "everything costs money" and if they don't like that then they can continue to perambulate down the street until they find exactly what they want.....   my hope is that they will wander far enough away to no longer bother us, or fall off the edge of the earth entirely!

One fellow I know use to refer such fools to his worst enemy and competition - but I cannot allow myself to incurr such a karmic burden lol ....

well there's the problem! he "got it for free" and thus it "ought to be fixed for free" .... further, since he did not have to expend ANY effort to acquire it, he does not put any value on it! And he pprobably blames the hardware. A common problem afflicting those with simple minds.

feel free to vent here, and we can all mock that insufferable fool further  :P

So did you smile and hand it back to him?

I have entirely too much to say on the matter, but probably shouldn't.

See a lot of that type of thing at the shop I was working at.  I too was/am the "designated Cowboy gun guy."  Once we had an older guy come in because he couldn't figure out why his Springfield front stuffer rifle wouldn't work.  He looked like the type of gent that might have used the rifle new, so I was figuring there was a spring or something out of place.  I took it and checked over it, and while I was looking I asked what caliber ball he was using.  He said "500," which I assumed meant that he was using a patched ball.
After a moment, I took the ramrod and fed it down the barrel and found that the rifle was a bit underloaded so I asked what charge he was using.  He said, "I dunno, whatever the factory loads are."  I figured he was probably using those premeasured pellet things.  I took the rifle into the back and got the ball puller and pulled out a patched 500 S&W magnum! I actually had to explain to this guy how a muzzleloader works.  :(  Didn't get a dime off that one, either.

Another time we had a fellow come in asking how to dispose of a WWI grenade that was leaking liquid.  :o  We told him to alert the bomb squad and and them do it.  He told us "Nah, the government is out to get us," and left.  Nobody has blown up around here that I know of, so I hope everything went well.

Shirley you don't mean he actually stuffed a loaded 500S&W Mag cartridge down the muzzle...
Do you ?

That's exactly what I meant.   A nice factory fresh 500 patched with a piece of cotton undershirt.  Lord knows how he got that thing down there, since the ramrod was pristine.  ???
