I'm posting this here because I know there's a lot of Iowa guys here.  Went to the fair this morning and my wife noticed there was cowboy mounted shooting at the Jacobson Equestrian Center.  It was a CMSA sanctioned event with one guy coming all the way from Oregon. It lasted all day, with a midday break, and the afternoon crowd was more people than I've ever seen in that building for anything. A lot of people just heard the shooting and came in to see what was going on.  A 4H chapter from Bondurant came in to work replacing the balloons. The announcer was named Sugar Ray, he was from Nebraska. Very professional rodeo type announcer with a DJ playing music to accompany the runs.  All very professional and the audience loved it.  If we want it to continue we need to email the fair board and tell them how awesome it was.

There's mounted shooting one evening at the Missouri State fair also. Not sure which night, we went for just the first day.

The Iowa state fair is one of the largest and most prestigious fairs. The population
of Iowa is about 3 million, last year the fair drew over 1.1 million or over 100,000
per day. In 1932 they put railroad tracks in front of the grandstand and ran 2 steam
locomotives head on into each other, huge explosion of fire and steam, bet you will
never see that again.

Coincidentally, we're watching Iowa public TV "Fair Show" right now. Likely will have some highlights of CMSA one of these nights....we've  seen it in past years. I went every year when a kid & quite often since until my "situation" changed. My Son's big on the Fair & went last weekend...he likes livestock  / judging...and other AG areas  - as that's his planned career path. It's a great site / grounds, lots of contests. My Great-grampa was in the fiddler contest every year & was always in the newspaper. His best I recall was 3rd place (1948) &my great aunt was involved with fair committees for 50+ years.
