That's the stuff Kent. Do you have video content to share? I'd love to see a virtual walk through and around the cabin perimeter in the snow. In southern Arizona, we have to go up on the Mogollon Rim to see the stuff. Definitely is soul feeding to see you enjoying this so much.

Dave, a video up load may be beyond my meager skills. But a moose walked by the porch yesterday afternoon.

My Good Kent -

love the photos!!! thanks so much for posting them.
they remind me of how the Colorado Rockies (unlike the New Mexico ranges) get socked in quite early LOL.

Just an FYI, if you plan to use your splitter:

A buddy is taking blacksmithing lessons and made a hook and nail for me, I hung the go devil on the porch with them.

May I suggest that you dress down the peened & flaired bits?
If actually used it will only be a matter of time before they split off and possibly cause owies...
as a former amatuer blacksmith I found out the hard way ....

+1 Prof Marvel, I had a friend loose an eye changing track on an M1 Tank for that very reason.

I agree with you whole heartedly.  I will send you a PM the next time we visit family in Boulder or Laramie, maybe we can have a cup of coffee and visit.

The finial touch, steps! To make getting on and off the porch (at night partially) steps are added. First a rather large  log was spilt into quarters then fitted up to the porch. Best guess carpentry was employed as I hadn't  brought a level, square or tape measure along. I did have a chain saw and a camp ax plus my buddy that is a true computer geek to help. So now the cabin is truly done.

I've enjoyed this venture since you first dragged the logs in, a thing of beauty.

Just found this thread and I must say that I enjoyed watching the progress of your cabin build. Its a dream to one day have a place to build a cabin like this. Yall have some pretty country over that way.

Here kitty kitty. Beautiful. Wow! My wife and I both saw a panther that was passing through Aurora many years ago. But he wasn't that close.

Hi

So, buying a Poodle to take up there is a BAD idea.  Dang.

Kent:
How close is the fire?  Middle son sent a photo from his porch in Laramie yesterday.  Usually you see the mountains in Northern Colorado, all you can see in the photo is smoke.

Joe, the Mandatory evacuation boundary is about 4 miles south of the cabin. The fire is around 20 but who knows where it's going. Three buddy's and I will spend a few days up there soon then muzzle loader season starts. We'll see how it goes. They say the snow should come in a couple of months and knock down the fires.
A poodle might make for a exciting evening setting on the porch. ::)
