Glad to hear about the rain! My buddies cabin is down near Tie Siding, a little concerned. We've had several small fires in the bar ditches, fortunately we've had some decent rain lately.

You're doing a great job on the cabin!

Thanks B H Scout, Rained hard on Sunday.
Finally getting down to the wire on this cabin. The chinking (wood fill between the logs) is done and I started dobbing with mortar to seal out the elements. Using a bit of mesh and nails to insure the dobbing gets a good grip. Added a little dye to the cement to make it look more like the locale dirt. It dries a bit lighter color and I think blends in better.

Got the chinking done. My buddy brought up a cast iron stove that he feels will serve better then the sheet metal one I have. I'll do some detailing to it and reblack it before moving it in. This past week I sleep in the cabin for the first time and was well pleased with it. Song dogs had quite a serenade for me at night. Next thing to do is to put down the finish floor and tack up the bear hide. It may be next spring before I can build the bunk beds as I noticed the aspen leaves are beginning to turn yellow at the cabin.

The porch sitting and siping part has been tested!  ::) If a fellow was to show up with enough whiskey to share that would cover a bunk for the night.  I'd never rent it but do like company some times.

May just surprise  Ya one day . If you see an old white Ford 4wd rattling up the drive with a keg  and a couple of hounds in the back , it'll be me .,,,DT

Kent,

With all the interest in visiting, you may want to consider a 3/4 porch on your cabin.
Great job!

So when are you moving in and when are you having us over to wake snakes?

It's time to wrap this project up. With the encouragement and suggestions of all of you I have in a mere three years finally set up house keeping in the cabin. Set up my camping kitchen inside and split some wood.  Even had my first guest. A few little details to do in the coming summers but I'm calling it done! Visitors must come one at a time as you can see its small, and bring whiskey.

Shouldn't he be on the floor?

Seriously though, that is an awesome cabin!

Kent, I'll bet every one of us who has watched this thread has had the dream of doing what you actually accomplished. Just really pleased for you. It's just a wonderful space you created with your two hands.

Fantastic work.  Thank you for giving us a good view of the project as it came along. This is real marrow of life stuff and the pictures are pure eye candy.

Thanks fellers. I reworked a video of the area and I'm posting it here for those that missed it. It's from earlier in the project and at the beginning on the far left is the few logs of the start of the cabin. This lodge was my base camp for most of the build.
