Two Flints,
A friend of mine has a Spencer Rifle with serial #3955.  He's been told this may have been issued to Wilder's Lightning Brigade.  He discovered the gun here in Michigan and with many of those early Spencers being issued to the Michigan Cavalry Brigade just prior to Gettysburg, I wonder if your SRS books could shed any light on it?  Thanks for your efforts.

Serial # 3962 a Spencer Rifle was issued to Company K, 9th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry in 1865 (no day/month given) . . . maybe your friend's Spencer Rifle serial # 3955 went to the same unit?

Thanks, Two Flints, for the information.  I passed this on to my friend and he is grateful.  He has some provenance that has lead him to believe this gun belonged to a Michigan cavalry trooper.
