Howdy Del and others,

A friend was lamenting that he passed up a chance to buy a cook book about chuck wagon recipes. Can anyone recommend a source for one. I'd like to get him one.

To be honest I've never seen one I thought was really worth much.

Is he like most, just looking for recipes to cook in a dutch oven?

Most chuck wagon food was cured pork, rice, beans, over cooked tough range beef, biscuits, and very little else, a pie or cobbler if one was lucky.

Howdy Sir Chuck & Del,

My buddy was looking for authentic recipes, not just dutch oven recipes. I told him pretty much what you said about the real trail food, Del. I might try the book Sir Chuck passed along, even though I think it's not quite on target.

Thanks guys,

Reverend Chase
