Howdy folks, been using KIK for years and now Powderinc is out of it.  I need some powder.

I do plan on some Swiss 1.5 for my BPCR but I'm undecided for my CAS guns as I have been using 2f KIK for my shotgun and 3f KIK for my 45 colt.

I'm leaning towards Schuetzen because I hear it burns cleaner than GOEX and since I shoot Remington's cleaner is good.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

I've been using Olde Eynesford, and I like it a lot. Just my 2 cents.

Schuetzen is great powder for SASS main match guns.  Swiss does very well but costs more.  I use Swiss in my long range guns.  I buy my powder here and get fair prices and great service.

Last I check with Buffalo Arms they were out of 3f Schuetzen.  Next best price is Powderinc.

By the way, KIK is no longer made/imported according to Powderinc.

Goex Olde Eynsford is what I use for everything.  Burns very clean, almost like Swiss and is much less expensive than Swiss.  It is also very accurate, equivalent to Swiss in my rifles.  US made, very nearly equivalent to Swiss in performance and much less expensive - what's not to like?  ;D

And when you compare prices, remember that what Powder Inc lists is the TOTAL price - includes shipping and hazmat fee.  They are the cheapest "all in" price I've found.

Thanks.  I have been using 2f KIK in my shotgun loads and Powderinc still has some 1.5f KIK...anyone know how that would be in a shotgun load?

I have used 1f, 2f, and 3f in shotgun all work well. 1f is more spectacular when ya like boom, flame and smoke. Right now I'm using Goex in shotgun and Schuetzen and OE in revolver and rifle loads. kR

WBW, I use Schuetzen in my 44/40s and Swiss in my buffalo guns.

If I couldn't get KIK I would get Scheutzen or Old E. In fact those are the two powders I've shot most over the last couple years.

I think either is cleaner than KIK but Old E is definitely the cleanest. It rivals Swiss in that department.

Which do you shoot in your long range rifles?

Ranch 13

Both. 1 1/2 in the 45-90, 44-90 st, 40-70, and selected loads for one of the 45-70's. 2f in the 40-65, 44-77 and carries the major load in the 45-70. Also works quite well in the 38-40, and 45 colt.

I was going to get some 1.5 Swiss and start using that for my 45-70 but if the OE works I wont bother with the Swiss.  I dont shoot as far as you but I am going to try to shoot 600 at the local club this summer.

If you're just shooting the 45-70, and CAS guns, then the 2f OE is the route to take.
I won the Sharpshooter class in midrange position match at the Nationals this past September shooting 2f OE in the Browning bpcr. That load was 69 grs. of 2f with a 060 fiber wad under the BACO 525 gr money bullet cast from 18-1, and lubed with Bullshop Nasa. Lacked .6 of a point of going into Expert.
Have shot that same load at 1000 yds and wouldn't hesitate to use it in a Creedmoor match. Also knocks the crap out of silhouette rams.

I really like Graf's black powder, from what I understand it's just repackaged Schuetzen powder.

Not a fan of Goex, it's dirty, hard fouling, not as hot as some powders.  That said I tried some Goex Olde Ensford and have been pleasantly surprised, I will be getting more.  Still not as good as Swiss, but pretty close.

Wildman, while I like the thought of clean in my Remingtons but I also really like the boom, flame and smoke in my CAS guns so I'm hesitant to buy OE without trying some.  Looking for a local shop who carries it.

Will you be bring up any OE at the end of the month?

Be glad to Willy. wM1
PS yer still gonna get plenty of flame and smoke and a little more boom with OE.

Man, that's a real flat tire on the road to nowhere........my Old Army's worked best with 40grains of KIK 2F.....plenty of BOOM, Smoke, Smiles, and clean stages....with the revolvers at least.

God forgives, I don't........
