first BP in 44wcf

yesterday i got around to shooting BP in my 1873 uberti rifle, i am hooked! i have been handloading sense i was a kid in 1967. been shooting muzzle loaders sense the 80s but never tried BP in a metallic cartridge until yesterday. at the first boom! i started to smile i hand lubed some big lube boolits with spg then sized them with my star machine. when i got through and cleaned the rifle up i set my star up for the spg and lubed a few, it works perfect in my machine with no heat on but just about 20lbs of air. i was shooting off hand at about 40yds and accuracy was very good. i used a compressed load of goex ol ensford 2f measured through my belding & mull those big lube boolits work good, at the end of about 20 rounds there was a grease ring at the end of the muzzle. i also used some of my mixture of BP lube i use on my flint lock patches. it looks and feels like spg it consist of 50/50 beeswax and olive oil.

Sounds like you've hit pay dirt.  Yesterday I ran a great match with my Browning 92 chambered in 44-ELR (That's Extra Long Russian) also known as 44 Magnum.  The Mav Dutchman bullets ran true and accuracy stayed to the end.  I'll clean those guns some time this week.

today i got around to trying some 3f Swiss. it cut the group down. kind of surprised me. i need to do some more test, i don't know if it shot tighter because it was 3f or because it is Swiss?

The rifle may have preferred the higher velocity provided by FFFg powder.
