Barrel & cylinder removed, the bolt does not drop down at half cock, but if I push down on bolt with hammer at rest  it makes a snap then it will drop at half cock. Is this normal? Thanks.

I'd be curious and dig into the revolver otherwise it's just speculation.  Sounds like either the hammer cam or the bolt leg itself aren't lining up and engaging.  To me, and I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, the snap is the leg going back over the cam.

Not quite normal.  The hammer side leg of the bolt is not dropping off the cam.  There may be small burrs on the back edge of the cam, as
well as a little "dressing" needed on the side of the leg that slides across the bolt.
