Nice rifle. I have a Model 14 in 30 Remington that I got for a good price.
I like the hat.

yea people see the photo and think i used the hat and leather jacket as a prop, well i did but they are my usual daily wear in the winter, the hat i wear all the time, i bought it about 20 years ago after the first one wore out.....

I had one in 300 Savage. It was a little weird to shoot as there was a lot of "ka-chunk" every time I fired it. It was like the old Remington  model 5 (?) where the barrel and action recoiled back, kicked out the brass and then slammed forward to load the next round. It was the FBI's official rifle for a while. Later the FBI went to the Remington 760 pump. Go figure.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

These rifle caliber semi autos are great for AZSA long range side matches.  I have one in .35 that's a track driver.  Unfortunately they're too powerful for use as a main match rifle.  The low magazine capacity (and slow reloading process) on this model would also make it a poor choice as a main match gun if it weren't too powerful.

well if the 35 is to powerful then how about one in 25 rem. this one was made in 1908 i also have one in 32 rem. and one in 30 rem. these are considered obsolete calibers by some but not me. i handload and cast for a lot of calibers.

Every cartridge both the Model 8 and 81 are chambered for is outside the main match rules.  Here are the sections that effect it and a link to the full rules.

"Any .30 caliber or larger caliber pistol, .30 caliber or larger pistol cartridge firing rifle (or straight cased rifle rounds; eg, .351 Winchester)"

and

"Jacketed ammunition is permitted providing the host club allows its use. Handgun ammunition must not exceed 1,200 FPS. Rifle ammunition must not exceed 1,400 FPS."

My dad bought a used 1923 vintage model 8 in .35 Remington in 1943.  The man who owned it had bought it new.  Dad got a Hump backed 12 gauge Stevens 520 shotgun, also made in and bought new in 1923, from the man at the same time.  I bought them both from Dad in 1969 when I left the Army.

Both are siting in a rack behind me right now and both need some TLC.  Dad cut the stocks back to fit his smaller stature so both guns need new stocks, and the shotgun needs a new arm from the forearm to the bolt.

The rifle needs the sights calibrated.  Somewhere along the line the barrel sleeve got twisted out of alinement with the Marbles "flexible" tang sight.

Both guns have taken a plethora of game down the years from gamble's quail on the small end to Rocky Mountain elk and one huge black bear on the larger side.
